Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

Finishing up a little work and then checking out of the office until…well, sometime! I should be able to just pack up some work and do a little on and off through next week at home.

Went to the fitness center here at work before my office and ran 3 miles. The only thing I like about morning runs is that it’s done for the day! I feel so much better running later in the day!

I keep begging out temperatures to warm up enough to melt some of the ice and snow. H says I may be able to go to one of the local Metroparks and find a trail that is clear enough (for my picky tastes) to run - so hoping for that.

I spent some time looking for a watch face that I could download that would display time, name and emergency contact info for my Garmin 235. Couldn’t find? Be nice to have this on garmins, fitbits, etc

I had a lovely run/walk yesterday - 4 miles in about 60 degree weather with a light sprinkle. Just perfect. No knee problems at all - my knee that was so sore after the half marathon was pretty much back to normal by the following morning.

In other news, DH and I have been taking turns doing night shift with a very sick senior doggie. He’s so confused about how to get out to go the bathroom & how to get back in. Last night at 3:00 in the morning, he got stuck amongst the patio furniture & couldn’t figure out how to get free & started to howl. The vet has us trying some things but I’m not super optimistic.

Santa is bringing me a Fitbit Alta - pretty excited about that. Happy holidays to all!!!

Oh Gertrude. So sorry about your doggie. They really do get confused!

Product review- women only! http://www.oiselle.com/shop/running-bras/cat-lady-racerback-bra

This is a fleece sports bra. Even my daughter thought it was too weird to order! I got it yesterday (the first batch sold out completely a few weeks ago). It is awesome! So warm and snuggly. Not sure I would actually run in it, but it is comfortable and perfect for post run or under a hoodie. I think it’s cute. I was between Small and Medium in the sizing chart for this and I got a medium, which is perfect. I didn’t want it too tight.

Gertrude, I’m sorry about your pup. I fear the day that we will face these problems with our dog (our first). Give him lots of lovin!

That fleece bra…I also couldn’t imagine running in it - with layers, by the time you get to the bra, no need for extra “heat”! However, I too could imagine that it might be cozy just in everyday or weekend lounging wear - with a layer on top of course!

I have a bra by Anita that has a fleecy-like lining inside (but not full-blown fleece) - it is comfy. I ran a couple of marathons in it!

Gertrude, so sorry about your doggie. :frowning:

Dealing with aging pets is so difficult. They really are members of the family. Sorry to hear about your situation Gertrude.

@MomofWildChild — I think that bra is hilarious. I’ll have to ask my daughter what she thinks–she’s much more the target audience than I am. Oh, and I thought of you this morning, as I was running for the third day in a row. I liked my thirty-day streak last summer, because it removed all the choices, but in the end it wasn’t healthy for my muscles and tendons. I remain impressed by your streak.

I have been slowly beating back some heel pain. I must have stepped hard on a rock, because it was sore one morning and has been slowly a bit less sore every day. It feels fine once I’m thoroughly warmed up–there’s a predictable distance from the house where it aches and then decides to be okay.

@GertrudeMcFuzz – some of my friends with older dogs that are experiencing some cognitive decline have had a lot of luck laying scent trails for their dogs to follow. Vanilla seems to be a scent the dogs will follow that doesn’t signal food as well. My sympathies–it’s a hard thing when our dogs need that much help.

Sorry to hear about your aging dog, Gertrude, we have a similar situation and it’s not easy.

Today was a travel day, bad eating at the airport due to little time. We had lunch at a hometown favorite place which serves fried porks. I used to eat these all of the time in high school, but could never do that now. Partly redeeming myself with broiled fish for dinner.

Hopefully I’ll be able to get some walking in this trip. Thankfully it’s only until Monday so I can’t do too much damage.

Merry Christmas and Happy Chanukah to all.

You as well @FallGirl! Enjoy your family, the food, the merriment and all that the family visiting has to offer. It’s only for a brief time and can be so enjoyable!

I have to ask though…fried porks? Can you describe this??

Gertrude, so sorry about your pup. Poor guy. You and Mr. McFuzz are excellent parents - it’s so, so hard.

I’m telling you- that bra is terrific! I love it more than I expected. Of course, I also have the Oiselle Yetti, which is a giant warm onesie! Not attractive, but SO nice and warm.

Bra talk. These are the times that I really miss Idad!

As my grandpa used to say, “fold your ears.” Meaning just do not listen to the irrelevant (for you stuff). LOL.

I miss idad all the time!!!

Strategically avoided a plate to cookies being carried in the hallway and offered to all available folks - by making myself “unavailable.”

lol, ohio, you would get a real charge from my female clients who complain about their bras making their heart rate straps uncomfortable and asking me what I recommend. My standard response is that I’ll ask my daughter what she recommends :).

Abasket - the porks are a very thin tenderloin that is fried. It’s a regional thing in northern Illinois and maybe Iowa.

Those are the best sandwiches ever! My main reason for wanting to go to the county fair!

The pork things sound yummy! Life is too short to eat super-healthy all the time.

Dragged myself out to do 6 miles this morning after DS woke me up at 4 am, locked out. So tempting to catch up on sleep but I’m glad I ran.

^^^Extra kudos to anyone who gets some exercise these days so close to the holiday!

It’s crunch time and not for abs - I’ll do what I can the next couple of days and at least get my steps in running around like a chicken with my head cut off.
