Way to go Gertrude! I really admire your half marathon count. I signed up for my 2nd recently. I hope it went well!
Did my 4M race today. At one point they had 2 lanes – one for Patriot fans, one for Falcons. You were supposed to run in the lane you support. And they did the football toss before – one man threw it 54 yards. Why isn’t he playing today?
3rd mile was tough – hill, wind, and my first stitch during a race. Couldn’t kick during the last mile so just focused on keeping it steady. I think the timers on the course are off – I crossed the start at 1:07 and the finish at 31:00 but my official time was 29:37. 4th in my age group. If I can break into top 3, I get an award. But still happy with the time. It felt challenging but doable (except for the stitch part).
Now I want a beer and some guacamole and chips. Do I have to wait til kickoff?
Nice race, Classof2015! Good luck, Gertrude! Back from the mountain. 5 miles this morning (planned 4.5 but I got a little bit lost). Gloomy but warmer than yesterday. Very peaceful. I’m glad to be home.
Wow! Thanks for all the encouragement everyone! I had a nice race, way off my PR time, but that’s OK. Got the biggest medal so far - this one’s a real beast. This wasn’t really a costume race, but there was a Richard Simmons, 2 Staypuft marshmallow men, a few superheroes & one guy carrying a blow-up doll with Milo Yiannopoulos’s picture on its face. (???)
Congrats on your race, 2015 - Gertrude, your races sound so fun!
Glad you checked in, @FallGirl - I was wondering how you were feeling.
Not much for me today - a pup walk this morning and a combo TRX/Pilates class this afternoon. I baked the lasagna today and it is a winner. Mr. Sabaray and I had a small piece for lunch, we’ll have some for dinner tomorrow and the rest is destined for the freezer for some quick meals. Very good and very filling - also very quick and easy to prepare, compared to “true” lasagna which is a greasy ordeal (at least at my house!) No dieting tonight - chips and guacamole, chicken wings, chili…I’ll be cheering for the Patriots in the spirit of our favorite New Englander.
Good job Gertrude–sounds like it was so fun! Congrats on your finishes dmd. Yikes, that’s a lot of racing!
Keep it up, Justamom. Sorry to hear about your mom.
Big yums up to your lasagna, sabaray. What a healthy and delicious sounding dish you well deserve.
Congrats to you, classof2015. So fast!
I think I too am settled into some mid-winter blues for so many reasons. Thank goodness for getting out to run and walk. Yesterday I ran a little over 6 miles. Today DH and I walked a big roundtrip to our small town diner spot for breakfast.
I think I’ve hit on a successful yogurt making recipe. I got my yogurt cultures–yogourmet brand–from Amazon. I’ve made two batches of superb yogurt from whole milk in my little machine (about a half tsp. of culture for 3 cups milk, 12 hour incubation). It’s thick, creamy, with just the right amount of acid for me. My old yogurt maker has little half cup dishwasher safe containers that are perfect for a breakfast portion topped with a bit of fruit, nuts, and honey. So, so good! In other healthy food news, my gut loving kefir continues to thrive and multiply. I was able to split off four new batches of kefir grains for some of H’s chef acquaintances. Recently, I expanded my kefir horizons by straining it through a yogurt strainer, seasoning it, and serving as a creamy “cheese” spread. Go kefir! And…I revived my sourdough starter. All of this homemade goodness makes for fattier, higher carb eating than I’m used to. Total stress eating.
And speaking of fat, my husband brought home the bacon in the form of a big pork belly. I’m cooking that right now, and if all goes according to his source, I’m going to be serving a crackling piggy superbowl dinner!
I want to hang out at both Sabaray’s and Plantmom’s house for nourishment.
Plant mom, I have no idea - how do you prepare/eat the porkbelly. I’ve seen it on Top Chef and all, but not really sure how to prepare it at home. (do you buy it from a butcher? At the grocer?)
3.5 not so easy miles today. My legs just felt like lead. Last night and today have just felt a LITTLE off - just kind of wore out and C-O-L-D! Though it was 40 today - but windy.
I picked up an order of garlic parm wings - been thinking of them all week. Held myself to 4 wings, a few home steak fries and some raw vegetables. Waiting for Gaga. Then I’ll probably be over watching!
I thought that losing weight on my own (no plans, shakes, etc.) over three years would burn good habits into my brain and create habits that would stick around. Nope.
My dog has an inoperable tumor, I was in a car accident last week in which my car was totaled and I’m now in a hand cast and am starting PT for my neck all over again, and my DH is being challenging. Am eating my emotions. Bigly.
@CountingDown , that is a very, very rough patch. All just awful. Try to find another outlet besides food. Friends. Books. Walking when you can. Reach and post here instead of reaching for the potato chips!
Wish I could get away!! Thanks, all. You are great.
It’s not snacks. It’s just food, lots of it. My willpower has just disappeared. Am seriously considering leaving my PT job at the synagogue. I’ve not been taking care of myself since I started a year ago. My cholesterol has doubled in the past six months; my cardiologist took me off the statins in September in the hopes that it would reduce my joint pain. It did, but my cholesterol has gone from 130 to 244.
So sorry @CountingDown. What a time you have been having. Unless you need this job for the money or have a compelling reason, the job seems detrimental to your health. I know they will suffer without you but you need to think about yourself.
Oh man, you need a different job, CD. I hear you on eating your emotions. I am emerging from a stressful time and I was doing some of that. I feel like my pattern is eat too much, drink too much, then finally so upset I stop eating. Sometimes it can be diverted to exercise instead. Pounding out the upset on the roads or a spin bike helps. I hope you can find a better outlet.
