Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

The reason I bought it from Nordstrom is not that it is “unique” to Nordstrom - it is the Nordstrom’s guarantee of the stuff they sell. After reading that others had troubles with Fitbit’s customer service, I am hesitant to buy from them directly.

Yes, the SuperFeet are more like over the counter orthotics, but they are good. There are also much cushier insoles. Look at RoadrunnerSports (online), too, for some ideas. They usually have a good selection.

@abasket I don’t think it’s rude at all to go to the running store and just buy insoles. They checked my feet out on some sort of pad that showed pressure points, height of my arches, etc and had me run for a few minutes on the treadmill while they filmed my ankles and feet. Then they molded the insoles. I don’t know if they extend the life of my shoes, but as a someone who is late to running I just want anything that will protect my feet, ankles and knees.

Hope @busdriver11’s run went well.

abasket, you might be pleasantly surprised that good OTC orthotics provide some additional cushioning when you are walking or doing some low impact exercise because they support almost every square millimeter of your foot’s bottom. Like beach sand, which is not exactly a soft material, but it feels soft to sit on because it molds to the shape of one’s bottom.

Okay, it’s done! Didn’t do as well as I hoped (less than two hours), but 2:08 and change. Thought I was going to make my goal, since I was on a 9 min/mile pace, except around 8 miles my feet were in excruciating pain and my right knee got stiff and I felt like I was just race walking at that point. I was expecting the blisters, but not the knee. I guess it’s just that I’m really not in shape for that kind of distance, and that four pounds I gained over Christmas…not good.

So my blisters are a bloody mess and I can’t take off my socks…but all I care about is that I made
my qualifying time for the Pikes Peak race and I DON’T HAVE TO DO THIS AGAIN!

Funny, the last couple of miles, I imagined you all out there with me. When the gorgeous ladies and studly dudes blew by me, I imagined they were you guys, telling me to hang in there. I was kind of delirious! But it helped  And now I can keep reading this thread, not with dread about the race, but looking forward to losing weight and getting fit again.

Congrats, bus!!!

Thanks, Bunsen! Now I feel like I can do anything. Not because I ran well or accomplished something, but because if I can put up with that sort of suffering and not stop or give up, then I can take on the world!

Or maybe it’s just the caffeine from this tasty Starbucks Reserve roast hitting me

Great job @busdriver11 ! To do that when your feet are blistered and your knee hurts- you are a warrior!

Thanks, FallGirl! Or maybe I just really, really didn’t want to have to do it again in March. :open_mouth:

Now I can stop avoiding this thread because I’ve been trying not to feel guilty about lack of training. I have many hundreds of posts to catch up on.

That’s a great time! Sorry your blisters were so bad, though. I can’t imagine what Pike’s Peak is going to do to them, but at least you got your entry ticket! Congratulations and have a glass of wine!

Thanks, MOWC! Yes on the wine!

Bus, so happy that the weather cooperated, and it did not pour on your run! Yay, you definitely earned that glass of wine.

Way to go busdriver!!

So happy to hear from you @busdriver11 ! First things first, nurse those feet back to health! Ouch!

Such an accomplishment anyway - onward!!!

Those nasty winds Sabaray talked about arrived here a couple hours ago - sounds like a tornado outside! I was able to get out before the wind arrived and it was still in the 40’s. So two nice runs between yesterday and today - ahh, now I can take tomorrow off! (of running that is!)

Thanks for the insole advice - I will make a trip to the store and see what they recommend.

These look interesting. Not stiff like the regular SuperFeet.

Congrats to busdriver! Although I’m trying very hard not to envision your feet.

I ran this morning on the National Mall in DC – from the Capitol to the Lincoln Memorial. I’ve walked it countless times, but this was my first run. It was cold and rainy, but inspiring too. I was listening to Hamilton as I ran, a perfect soundtrack to the surroundings.

^^^A great bucket list run @fireandrain!

Got a yoga class in this morning before the snow–it has been snowing since noon!! No walking outside for me. We must have about 10-12 inches.

Did a hill climb on H’s treadmill. Just realized that the stair climb I was going to do will interfer with our trip to Vero Beach.
I will try again next year.

Good work Busdriver. Blisters are so painful. Congrats to abasket for getting selected for your fitness example.

Great job, busdriver! That’s a great time and pace!

I had a bad dream last night. All I remember is that I forgot to bring my running shoes and shorts to a long race. Sigh. Fortunately, I woke up the the reality of an empty beach! Heck, I could have run bare footed with a swimsuit bottom and nobody would have cared. 3 mile run this morning. Long walk this afternoon, shell hunting with DH.
