Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

I am on my second Fitbit–no problems with the first. I asked for an upgrade for Christmas.
Yoga today–it was a really difficult class (hips and hamstrings). We did most of the poses with heels against the wall. Pictore downward dog with heels flush to the wall.

PiYo sounds like a challenging class Sabaray.

It is challenging but it moves very quickly with lots of variety. It is so different from my other usual activities - nice to have a change of pace. Hips and hamstrings sounds like medieval torture to me!

For all of the candy lovers (and I know there are a few), here’s an interesting little read:

My wonderful D sent me some beautiful tulips - perfect choice for me!

Only missed 1 hour of the steps during the seminar. I hoofed it around the lobby during the break!

The department I supervise is really into holidays and celebrating. When I got to work there were Valentine’s balloons and candy for everyone- individual cups and stuff. I’m used to lawyers who don’t tend to do such things. Now I’ve eaten stuff I normally don’t even touch and have spilled mini M&Ms all over the floor. What is the point of “mini” M&Ms anyway? They are like little pills!

Mini M and M’s shouldn’t even touch your hand…direct from container to mouth…

I made some chocolate covered strawberries for the few at my office today. They were selling the enormous ones at Kroger yesterday - heck with that, I bought a package of strawberries for $2 and a container of melting chocolate disks for $2.50 and took 5 minutes to dip them this morning!

Hello all! I am so off track these days, but thought I’d check in for lunch to see what you’re all up to. Lots of fitbit talk I see. I really want one now too!

Welp, vacation last week, Valentines candy this week, the Januaries are creeping in!! Although I did walk around campus a lot and managed to get in one day at the gym.

I will ride the Stairmaster for an hour tonight, I will…

OK, experts – would compartment syndrome have visible bruising? Just swelling? Am trying to figure if I should be freaked out.

I would be not expert on compartment syndrome but if you are concerned please just make a call to your doctor or go to a trusty urgent care!!!

Kind of a crappy day. Little things adding up to a lot of blah. Getting outside after work was a must for my sanity. Thought I was going to walk - instead, I didn’t. 3 mile run.

Tomorrow is another day.

@CountingDown - yes, there can be bruising. With your history, PLEASE go to the ER ASAP.

My car was totaled. Hoping that the payout will be fair. Won’t find out for a day or 2. Talked to H and I think we are going to buy a new Outback. H really wants the back up camera and Bluetooth. Subaru seems to have good incentives right now on new Outbacks so that’s a plus.

Exercise has been a huge bust, eating has been even worse. It’s been a struggle. Tomorrow I have to drive and get all my stuff out of my car. Including a cooler of food that I abandoned that day. I may have to throw the entire cooler away, it had eggs and milk in it. Lord knows what shape it’s in.

I am not a very religious person but I know someone was watching over us. I have a defective airbag in that car, I was told that the airbags should have gone off and they weren’t sure why. I was so relieved since Subaru had not sent me the recall on the airbag although they had sent me a letter saying they knew I had a tanaka airbag. We were not going fast, maybe 10 miles an hour. I’m really surprised that it did so much damage.

@CountingDown - yikes. If you are concerned, please go see a doctor!!! Please report back because the folks here would be worried about you.

@deb922 - that sucks. Fingers crossed that you get a decent amount for the car.

deb, that accident sounded horrible – sorry about your car, but thankfully you are OK. You have good reason to be eating poorly.

Fitbits: I had a Fibit One, then bought the Charge HR. It didn’t work properly, so they sent me another Charge HR. I’m now using an Apple Watch and trying to remember to wear the Fitbit One so I can still be active on their website. My husband lost 2 Fitbits – including the one he found in a beach parking lot that someone else lost. He thinks he lost both of them going through airport security. My daughter has a Fitbit, and I think she just stopped using it. So the total for my family is 6.

@CountingDown - please see a Dr ASAP.

@deb922 - so glad you were ok, hope it works out with the car.

I’m on FitBit # 2.

Just yoga this AM, but am about to get on the treadmill for a bit. I need to move. H is traveling for work so no Valentine plans here.

5 miles on the treadmill again this morning. Probably will do the same again tomorrow.

Deb- sorry about the car. I bet you are still shaken up a bit. Sounds terrible!

Sigh, accidents - what a crappy thing to have to deal with Deb. I was in an accident with a Subaru - their car had hardly no damage, mine quite a bit. That was motivation enough for me to have my next car be a Subaru - I had a Forester and have learned to really love the back up camera - and bluetooth. Best of luck - I think the Outback has better colors!

BB - I just noticed the banner ad on the top of the page for me is for Nordstrom and it features five pictures of navy blue Mother of the Bride dresses and one picture of a rose gold Fitbit.

That stinks about the car, deb922. You do have a guardian angel. Scary.

I hope you have a better day tomorrow, abasket.

Fitbit Count: add 3.

We drove home from the beach today. Too much sitting and too many car miles. DH and I walked this morning on the sand, and this evening on the pavement :frowning: . Incredibly enough, I had no chocolate or candy today.

Currently in PA; last overnight stop. Found a place where we could board our pup for several hours so we could tour Monticello – we were supposed to do this on our way south but had to change plans because of a snowstorm coming in. Great “behind the scenes” tour of the entire house. And it definitely wasn’t crowded!

If I decide to stay with a Fitbit, I’ll be on my 3rd. D is on at least her 6th … @MomofWildChild - so it’s the charger you’re having issues with, not the actual tracker?

@CountingDown - I had to Google compartment syndrome since I’ve never heard of it. In your place I’d be on my way to the doctor …

Glad to read you’re OK, @deb922. Scary stuff indeed!

Also glad to read your dad is home, @MichaelNKat. Perhaps I’ve mentioned this before, but H invests in healthcare companies. He’s not a doctor, but definitely knows his way around the healthcare world – AND, he has a wide network of contacts, doctors, etc. His 2 main mantras: Get a 2nd opinion and have an advocate if you go into the hospital.

I was in a car accident two weeks ago and my Prius was totaled. (@1214, I feel your pain! We also have an Outback. Love that car!) Was hit from behind at 40 mph while waiting for the van in front of me to turn left. No left turn lane, no light, oncoming traffic. He was stopped and had his blinkers on. I stopped behind him. The Chevy Avalanche who came up over the ridge didn’t. Prius crumple zones work!

My neck is messed up, I’m in a semihard cast to try to heal a torn ligament in my right hand in an effort to avoid surgery, and my right knee (the one that’s already had two surgeries) got banged up. The usual muscle soreness has pretty much passed. Have been to the ER, primary, three orthos (one for each part), the lab and the PT. Saw the ortho for my knee last week, and he thought it was a contusion on my IT band, and possibly my meniscus. He said if it got worse, it was probably the meniscus and to call him so we could decide whether to drain it or do a CT scan. Last time we did meniscus surgery, he said the next time would be a knee replacement. (NOOOOOOO!!!) The knee got significantly worse yesterday. Went to cardiac rehab just to walk very slowly or if that failed, pedal the recumbent bike. Couldn’t bend my knee enough to get my foot into the strap on the pedal. Called the doc’s office and the scheduler was incredulous that the dr. had told me to call. She agreed to pass along a message to him to call me. Haven’t heard from him. (He is a fabulous doc, incredibly popular and is THE guy in the area for knees and hips.)

Saw my oncologist this morning, who looked at it and said that while there are no obvious signs of hematoma, it’s definitely very swollen (I can’t bend it beyond 45 degrees) and she thought I should be evaluated to rule out compartment syndrome.

So now I have to decide on whether to go to the ER (where they didn’t even do an EKG or INR on me after the accident despite my history), call my primary, or call the ortho back and MAYBE I’ll hear something. I was able to get an ortho appt for next Monday afternoon. Can’t imagine that waiting til then would be a good thing.

And then I found out today that my primary never got the INR results I had done last week. LabCorp never processed the blood sample. There’s another trip to a medical office for info I REALLY need because of the blood thinners and clotting disorder.

Sorry, I guess I needed to vent.
