My mother swore by lemon juice and hot water in the late morning and then she’d skip lunch to keep her weight down. She also smoked to keep her weight down. Times have changed.
I know a surprisingly large number of people who are trying the apple cider vinegar thing. It doesn’t seem to be working. My latest weight loss trick is, though: I don’t eat until my stomach is actually growling. And then I eat less than I want. I feel great and the weight is slowly coming off.
CB3B–sending good thoughts to your brother; hoping for positive outcomes.
Went to the gym today and did 60 minutes on Cybex arc and 20 minutes of free weights. Finished 5 sessions with a new trainer and I feel like I could do just as well by myself. We didn’t click–he’s a young guy who says nothing–polite and respectful (because I’m old) but not providing much encouragement and overall just a wet noodle type of person. Thinking I will work on my own.
Bromfield2- that’s disappointing to hear. I sometimes think about signing up for a trainer but I think I would need a really specific type of person for it to work.
Did four miles on the treadmill tonight. I’m really liking it being lighter outside for longer, but it’s too cold for me to go out! I’m better about going out on Saturdays to run (usually), but ugh, I just don’t like being cold!
Very thankful that tomorrow is Friday! I’m hoping that it will be nice enough to go out for a walk tomorrow evening.
Anybody know a good, healthy meal replacement shake? My younger son is drinking something called Soylent, which apparently some of the tech guys like (it’s effortless and supposedly healthy), but it sounds disgusting. Plus I’m not certain about some of the ingredients. Anyone else have any better suggestions? I mean, the name itself is quite a turnoff!!
That’s disappointing Bromfield. It does seem like you need the right person. I had one young lady who was kind of apathetic and didn’t believe in bioidentical hormones (you know, people should age naturally), even though she didn’t actually know anything about them. So I stopped using her. My sister had this older lady who would just yell at her all the time in a booming voice, and she loved her. I would hate that. I also don’t want a dude.
busdriver11, have him make his own rather than buy packaged products (many of which are crap). A cup of 1% organic milk (substitute almond milk if you’re not a dairy fan), a cup of organic strawberries and blueberries, a banana, 2 tablespoons of organic peanut butter, a banana, a couple of scoops of whey protein (or a high quality vegan protein powder if that’s your preference) a you have a very nutritious meal.
MichaelNkat, I fear you overestimate what he’s willing to do. I imagine the product he is taking involves shaking and opening up the bottle…baby steps. Though what you’re describing sounds delicious to me, probably more effort than what he’s interested in.
Maybe he should be just be drinking a healthy protein shake and eating some fruit. How did I end up raising lazy, picky kids (as far as eating goes)?
busdriver11 – I don’t usually drink protein shakes but I had one after a race that I liked – Gatorade “Recover”. I pulled one out of the fridge (had it; didn’t realize it) – 20 g protein, 280 calories (and 21 g sugar…).
Made it back home. The cats and the kid are happy to see us (well, the cats for sure). Averaged 15,000 steps a day and swam in the ocean every morning. Not too bad for a lazy vacation!
Welcome back, Bunsen!
Power vinyasa yoga today with my favorite yoga teacher.
busdriver11: I almost always have a protein drink for breakfast. I go to a holistic practitioner who recommended a protein powder made by a company called Standard Process. I use the SP Complete Vanilla powder, which I mix with almond milk and berries–sometimes half a banana. It’s easy and quick. You usually have to buy SP products through a distributor, but I recently saw that it’s on Amazon for the same price.
You know, I think I’ll ask my kid if he’s willing to do just a minor amount of work. When I read a review about Soylent and someone said one of the mixtures was like drinking vanilla flavored semen… my first reaction was eww! Then, I wonder how he knows what that tastes like? :-S
Steps are being earned today by running around trying to finish up work and then running around the house packing - taking my 83 year old mom to Southern CA to visit her sister tomorrow. Time for some airport steps!
Disappointed because they seem to be entering a cool front there - has been in the 80’s now dropping to low 70’s. But then again, it snowed her today so I guess it’s all relative…was hoping to start my 2017 tan!!!
Looking forward to some new views for running (and hoping the area we are in allows it!) for the next few days.
