Good job, MOWC - my turn to be proud of you!
Kara Goucher speaks to the Runners World about her knee injury and return to running:

She’s had a tough road (pun intended). I’ve always admired her. It’s such a big stage and there have been so many disappointments. That is really strange about the shoes…
So her injury was caused by doing plyo after running the trials. Hmmmm… Sounds so familiar. Folks, please! Don’t do jumping for a while after running a long race.
No danger of any jumping on my part, no matter how far I’ve run - not good for my ankle.
I ordered new shoes this morning - I like the Transcends I’ve been wearing, but it’s a new model so we will see. I wore the Adrenalines I had ordered as an alternate pair in the fall and could really feel the difference and not in a good way - the toe box is narrower and not as roomy and there’s too much room in the heel. Glad I only need to wear them until my new ones arrive.
Hope C3Baker got a dry run in - I’m back to Pilates tomorrow morning. I feel pretty good with the exception of my quads. Had some Rishi turmeric/ginger tea, yogurt with berries for dinner. Big night here!
Bunsen- I’ve been doing some bungee cord and parachute training!
I stay away from box jumping. I trashed my Achilles last time doing jumps.
I had a great 6 mile run last night. The weather was nearly perfect - cool (but not cold) and just a very light breeze. No rain - yay! I was fast and felt great. Tonight is running club so it will be a shorter and slower run, but it is a fun group of people.
sabaray - that sounds like a very healthy dinner but I sure hope you had a big lunch yesterday - that couldn’t have been many calories!
Yesterday - coffee with milk, homemade mcmuffin, small portion of pasta with sauce, roasted Brussel sprouts, small leftover hamburger, an apple and dinner. I eat a big lunch and I’ve gotten in the bad habit of eating an equally large dinner. I need more vegetables for sure. For some reason I was really craving carbs and protein yesterday.
Good workout this morning, going to try to get to mat class later in the week.
50 minutes on the Cybex Arc. Now a quick breakfast, and then it’s off to NH to visit my brother. Not sure how long he’ll be in the hospital; I’m sure he wants to go home. Per my SIL, he’s been complaining about a few things – so I guess he’s feeling OK, all things considered.
Good work everyone! C3B- glad you had a good run! Aren’t those nice?
3.6 this morning before work. (yes, 2 days in a row OUTSIDE!!) Legs are still tired from Sunday’s 11 miler. I’m going to have to do a very early treadmill run tomorrow morning before our flight to Florida. After that- flat, warm running for a few days.
4 lovely miles this morning. Now off to spend a couple days/nights with my mother who ended up in the hospital after exhibiting very confused behavior while at a McD’s drive through… Turns out she had a UTI, common in elderly women, which causes sepsis & “intoxication” basically. Thank goodness she didn’t have a wreck on the road. My relationship with her has been rocky over the years, so I’m a little apprehensive. Sigh.
In much happier news, I got a job! I start Monday. I’ve been contracting, but really missed the security of a regular paycheck & medical benefits. Feeling optimistic, but I know this new job will challenge me. Have a great day everyone!
Congrats, Gertrude!
Congrats Gertrude!
I’ve been enjoying your home area, Southern California but traveling for and with my mom and her 90 year old sister has me ready to go home now. We actually ended up renting a nice room , but room at the retirement home my aunt is at - this wasn’t the plan for me initially but is how the chips fell when I realized I just couldn’t leave my mom on her own to get around the place. Eye opening for sure - and sort of depressing. But glad we did it - it was never meant to be a trip for me but for them. We did manage to get out for an excursion each day.
Managed a 30 minute run each morning so there’s that. Traveling most of the day tomorrow - my steps are a bit of a bust this week - what can you do?!
Congratulations, Gertrude! Glad they caught your mother’s UTI. We went through that a lot with our elderly folks (mom, stepmom etc).
Anyone see a problem with this. My internal dialogue at work… " Oh look, my FitBit buzzed that it’s time for me to walk my 250 steps for the hour. Up from the desk and off I go. Let’s see. I could go up to the 4th floor and swing by Donna’s office and grab some jelly beans from her jar. Or- maybe down to 2 to IT where the bowl of chocolates sits. I wonder if Building A got donuts today? That could get me the steps for the next hour, too, if I go over there!"
^makes perfect sense to me, MOWC.
As good as my run was on Saturday, that’s how bad last night’s was! I was scheduled to do six miles, but stopped at three. Today was supposed to be a rest day anyway, but I woke up at 4 with a really bad headache and just feeling all around awful. Ended up taking the day off as I didn’t think I was in any shape to do my 30 mile drive to work (with a speed limit of 70 for most of the trip…). I also have class tonight from 4:30-7, and I’m going to go to that.
This is shaping up to be a crazy week! I had an interview yesterday, got called yesterday for an interview on Friday, class tonight, meetings after work tomorrow, a twelve hour day at school on Thursday… I’m thinking I need to just focus on getting workouts in and not worrying too much about if what I accomplish is actually what was on the schedule. I’m going to look forward to these times to work on myself.
Some runs are just like that (unfortunately), nahnah. Good luck with your busy schedule!
2.7 treadmill miles before heading to the airport. Florida up next!
Congrats on the job Gertrude!
YAY on the job, Gertrude!
6.5 this morning, front is moving through our area so we had a fair amount of wind and falling temps. Glad to have it done - now it’s time to walk the pups.
nahnah, sometimes you just have to go with the flow. I’m one of those people who likes to stick to a schedule and over time I’ve learned that sometimes adjustments are needed and it usually doesn’t make a huge difference one way or the other. Lots on your plate right now, remember rest is also important!
Congrats and best wishes at your new job Gertrude!
