I hate auto correct!!! Lol

Michael -

Had a good day today. New cyclocross bike came in and the shop pushed it to the head of their work to build it up today. It is so cool. Single chainring, no front derailleur, and hydraulic disk brakes. Can’t wait to ride it this weekend on the ride I’m doing that’s 56 miles with 23 miles of gravel and hard pack trails. And my Physical Therapist cleared me to do squats and deadlifts! Yay!!!

Michael- what manufacturer/brand? Are you doing any cyclocross racing?

ohio, it’s a Specialized Crux Elite which is the “entry level” bike in Specialized’s line up of carbon fiber cyclocross bikes. Cyclocross race season is basically over now that road season is starting but there may be one or two races still to come but I want to put some miles on the bike before I race it so I probably will wait to next season try my hand at racing. There are a bunch of Roubaix/Fondo rides coming up in the spring that combine road and gravel grinding, like the ride I’m doing this Sunday, so I’ll have the chance to put the bike through its paces a bit. My training partner (the women’s Masters National Road Champion) bought my old cyclocross bike so some of these rides will no doubt get a little feisty, lol.

Nice run this morning - had the opportunity to run along with one of the men who is a very experienced runner - has done ultras in the past, just a very consistent, steady runner. Got lots of good tips from him as we ran and I was surprised at how easily I was running with him. I’m sure he wasn’t pushing hard though! It was a good run, though - 6.5 done. Pup walk followed.

“Train Smart, Run Forever” arrived yesterday - I only had a chance to skim it but I think it is going to be an excellent resource for me. I just want to get this half over with and then forget about races for a while. Unless there’s a cool t-shirt, hat or bling…

@MichanelNKat, thanks for the advice! All very helpful. I will check out MFP for sure. It’s definitely harder for me to lose weight and keep it off now that I’m in my 50s. We do have a full set of weights, so I can bench press, lift dumb bells, etc. There are also a couple of Y classes that look good. I’m lucky to have a wonderful running partner to keep me motivated, too!

^you can do it, Maine! It’s definitely tougher once you hit 50 to keep the pounds from creeping up. It was only when I started running again that I was able to finally shed the 20 pounds I’d gained.

MichaelnKat – your new bike sounds cool!

Got out to do 7 this morning. Started out slower so no pain this time, but (thanks MOWC) will check it out if it comes back. Sabaray – count me in the group getting ready for a half this month. I have a love/hate relationship with races (not that I’ve done that many). Definitely like the goal and motivation, but the feeling of OMG I can’t skip a run because I have a race coming up is a pressure I could do without. But it feels so good when you cross the finish line!

Michael- that sounds really cool. Enjoy!
Sabaray- excellent run. I’m glad you got to run with that guy. Some people are really good at running with someone and adjusting to their pace and it’s a real pleasure. One of my PA friends can seamlessly adjust to anyone and talk the whole time and you never feel like you are holding her back. On the other hand, I’ve run with folks who always seem to be a half step ahead of me and I always feel “pushed”.

Good 7 miles, Classof2015!

I got out for 3.1 this morning. My legs are tired, but we are supposed to have bad weather for the next couple of days, so I wanted to get out there.

MaineLonghorn is underselling herself a little. She’s run half marathons and been a part of the running community for many years. She’s been disciplined about her weight loss before, so I know she can do it again! Life just gets in the way for stretches! She also likes cold weather!

Good Morning to all and a special “hi” to @PlantMom and welcome to @MaineLonghorn .

No chance skipping work today, but it is gorgeous outside. Ran 2.9 outside then walked a bit.

@MomofWildChild, thanks for the endorsement, ha! Yes, the last 6 years of one crisis after another have really thrown me off, but now life is calm (knock on wood). I know it’s a matter of collecting myself and regaining my discipline.

Does anyone have a cheap recommended way to ship a bike? FedEx is $175 one way. I want a road bike in AZ while I’m training. Thinking my best bet is to rent or buy something off Craigslist when I get there. MOWC - how does WC ship his bikes to his TRIs?

Last night I did 5 miles after work. Lately I am so drained - especially mentally, but also feel physically drained - when I get home from work that running is a lot harder than it used to be. My weekend runs still feel good, though, so I think it’s just the job messing with me. This morning was a 4.6 mile run with Back on My Feet. A slower pace than usual, but I ran with a member who was very chatty and it was a fun time.

MaineLonghorn - welcome and I’m really glad you are joining in instead of lurking. I marvel at all that you have endured in the last few years and I’m sure that you will get yourself back in the shape you want to be. I am another who enthusiastically endorses MyFitnessPal - I have been using it religiously for over 3 years and still find it very helpful.

sabaray - great run this morning! The guy you ran with sounds like an awesome running partner!

Michael - enjoy that new bike! You have ambitious plans for breaking it in with your big ride this weekend!

Bunsen - I don’t think I ever congratulated you on the new house. I meant to ask if this is the one that will drastically reduce your commute time?

Ohio- he has a big bike case but has had trouble with TSA damaging his bikes when they open the case at airports. It’s checked luggage and is oversized so costs extra. Recently he had a new system of two smaller cases that aren’t oversized and he checks them as regular luggage. There are also bike transport companies. He has used FedEx, too.
You might call a bike shop in Flagstaff for suggestions.

I such an introvert I just prefer running alone. Well, me and my music! Always interests me to hear about those running together and chatting. I’d be saying, “can you be quite, this is my favorite song!!!”

Just saw this posted and thought I’d share - especially for those who want some new workout wear but don’t want to pay Lulu prices. These EB movement leggings are on sale now for $42. I have a couple pairs of their capri length and they are nice. I actually saw this on my FB page - posted by someone who is a Lulu ambassador but still advocating for the quality and wearability of these leggings:

4 miles in the bag. Not really feeling the love this morning, but when I thought of stopping I’d think about posting here, so I kept going!

Welcome to @MaineLonghorn.

I generally prefer running alone, too. Back when I was faster it was nice to have company on the long runs, though.

I like both kinds of running, but am mostly running alone these days. I enjoy being alone with my thoughts and just letting my mind wander. Back when the kids were little, I did like to have an uninterrupted three hour conversation with adults, though! That’s what running was to me then.

Went to gym class yesterday and today to swim practice. Cold pool! We had a cold snap and the heater wasn’t on I guess.

Hey, ML! Welcome back. I feel like I am recommitting, too, after some weeks of playing too much.

@ohiopublic You might check with freight companies like Yellow freight or I know some folks ship bulky items on Greyhound buses. The other option is to contact a reputable car shipping company like Intercity or Reliable. They will generally have room in their rigs for bikes if they’re not full of cars.
