What a perfect weekend, sabaray! Glad you got to do so much.

Managed 2.6 miles this morning. My legs are really tired and quads are a little sore.

Yum…Nando’s! Wish we had one of those!

Saw the kids off this morning, back to work. Great weekend and a good amount of outdoor time. Enjoyed the 3 layer carrot cake but gave away my piece of lemon meringue pie to my son.

Also best of luck to all BM runners today! Anyone know someone running??

Watching the marathon coverage now. It is inspiring! always stimulates fantasies…ie, wouldn’t that be fun? The fantasy continues! In my running “prime”, circa 1981, the qualifying time was 2:50, far beyond my capabilities. I didn’t realize they relaxed qualifying times (currently 3:05 for young men) and my old man age group time might be do-able, except for the minor issue of only having run 5k races for the past 30 years.

In reviewing the list of runners participating from my old town in NJ, I recognized the name of a young lady - daughter of an old friend. I watched her run XC in middle school and HS, she ran at a top school (not a top runner) and now she is running Boston.

A little creepy? Perhaps…but kind of neat to look up your home town or other towns of importance to you and see if you know any of the racers today:

^ I know a guy who was training for it, but a month ago came down with shingles. The rash was horrific and incredibly painful, he had to stop running and still hasn’t recovered.

Really unfortunate. Thinking strongly about getting the vaccine. There is a new vaccine in the pipeline that has much higher efficacy and lasts longer, hopefully that comes out soon.

@notrichenough I am holding out for the new vaccine.(My doc agrees with my plan) Wife already had the old one. Commercials and stories (like yours) are scary, so yes, would like to get that new one asap!

She is back in the race:

My friend is mid-40’s in age, probably wouldn’t have been able to get the vaccine even if he wanted it. :frowning:

Not sure if insurance will pay for it if you are under 60, but I don’t think I care.

As always, I am hoping for Meb to have a wonderful race that he enjoys. He is one of my very favorite runners. The women’s race looks to be an interesting one.

NRE, that is horrible! Mid-forties and obviously fit.

Hope everyone celebrating Easter had a good one! We were at H’s brother’s with lots of the same people we celebrate Thanksgiving with. Fabulously warm, sunny day. PLUS, H and I had a lengthy phone call with our Air Force S. He’s scheduled to come up for a long weekend over the 4th of July, so that’s happy news – especially since it’s looking more and more as if he’s not going to be able to be at D’s wedding in September due to a 6 month deployment. Sigh …

4 mile run outside this morning, in honor of Marathon Monday. (We’re all on holiday here in MA!)

Cyber hugs to those having to say good-bye to a pet. Tough times for sure. Kudos to MOWC and D.

We have two very good friends running Boston today, and know several others. I enjoy tracking friends during the day, it is fun to see how everyone is doing. I am really looking forward to running it next year. I will start looking for a hotel this summer.

I ran a 5K on Saturday, it was a very small local race. We got there early and since I wanted to get more miles in for the day, the daughter of a friend and I decided to do a warm-up run. So I did a 5K before the 5K. In the race, I passed a lady at around mile 2, no big deal. She came up to me at the end and demanded to know how old I was (turns out we’re in the same age group). She went into a long explanation of how she wasn’t running her best today because it was warmer than she had expected and she hadn’t been able to train as much lately, yada, yada, yada. I just kind of looked at her with a blank stare wondering why on earth I would care or why she felt the need to explain to me how I could pass her. It was just really weird how fixated she was on why she didn’t have a good race - this was such a small and uncompetitive race I don’t know why it mattered. Oh well, we all had a good time.

MOWC - great job on your 15K!

CBBBlinker - so glad to hear that your brother’s condition is improving.

CD - so sorry to hear about your dog. That is so tough. :frowning:

It was a gorgeous weekend and we got lots of yard work done. We went out for Easter brunch after church yesterday and had a fabulous meal, but when I attempted to enter everything in My Fitness Pal I used up 1.5x my total daily calories just in that meal! It was a very light dinner at our house last night.

Very warm for the Boston runners – hope they all reach their goals!

6 miles this morning. Felt a little dehydrated and wondered if the water fountains were back up after the winter – they were! Which definitely helped.

C3B that was a really weird exchange with that woman!

Yes, looks like sunny and high of 70 in Boston - the runners will have a “too” warm race.

Currently 79 degrees. This would be the part where I sat down on the curb!

79? Oh, that’s an “oh no!”

@C3Baker – was she a New Yorker? :slight_smile:

Many years ago, we lived in Boston. There’s nothing quite like Boston on marathon weekend. So much fun! We were in Boston this weekend visiting S. We walked all around the finish area, etc. Yesterday, I had a great 6 mile run along the Charles. When I got into the elevator at the hotel, some kind gentleman took one look at my sweaty self and wished my good luck today. I didn’t bother to set him straight.

I’m watching the coverage now. I love seeing and recognizing where the runners are on the course.

I checked. FOUR runners from my tiny little Portland (OR) zip code. I had no idea.

Many years back–late 70s to 1982–I lived on the Boston Marathon course, about mile 25 (just before the overpass into Kenmore Square). One of the reasons I have NO desire to run Boston is that every single year someone staggered off the course, asked if they could use my bathroom, then collapsed into my arms with leg cramps before they could walk up the front steps. Mind you, I ran with the Greater Boston Track Club at the time and knew many marathoners who were very successful – but I also saw the carnage.

My favorite moments as a spectator were hearing the wave of noise come down Beacon Street as the first runners arrived, then a second wave as the first woman arrived.

79?? OMG. It was 70-75 at the end of the race when I ran it, and I was fried!!!

Spent the entire Sunday working on the taxes. Filed a few minutes ago. Holy JP Morgan, 86 entries in Form D. Hate when Etrade breaks up a trade and then reports an incorrect basis to the IRS. Aargh. Mr, however, beautified the front yard. It looks gorgeous with all spring bulbs that the squirrels have not eaten flowering.
