Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

I have a lot of friends running. I hate that it’s hot! My Bostons were ok weather but the race started at noon back then. Logistics were tough.

C3B- some runners are like that. My daughter and I have named that behavior after a particular local runner we know.

That Jordan Hasay looked incredible. Oregon Project runners did well.

I wonder how many calories you burn doing taxes. My HR was sure elevated at some points!

US men got 2 of the top 4, 6 of the top 10 and 8 of the top 13, US women got 2 of the top 4. That’s a substantial improvement over last year, which had only 1 male (10th) and 1 female (8th) in the top 10.

What accounts for such an improved showing?

Times were much faster this year as well, with the men’s winner over 3 minutes faster than last year, and the women’s winner over 7 (!) minutes faster.

I know there was a bit of a tail wind expected, but could that really shave that much time off?

It certainly involved a lot of brain cell fueling! Accounting for trades of 42 shares here and there… Lots of basic algebra… phew I am relieved until the next year’s tax time. Peeked at the marathon coverage while I was working on the taxes.

Surfing the net while my stupid mandatory Office 2016 update is being installed… Found an interesting article worth linking here:

About one guy who catches marathon cheats.

Best story of the day!!

4 hours and 44 minutes. I cannot believe she is 70 year old!!

@BunsenBurner — I went and checked the official results for K Switzer. Yes, 70, fifty years after her first Boston–and she placed 8th in her age group! Apparently there are a lot of AMAZING 70 year olds out there, which I find incredibly encouraging.

BB - Love Derek Murphy of Marathon Investigations! I even give him money. Nothing worse than a running cheat.

Fun to watch the Boston finish and to follow friends on line. I had a friend qualify this year after years of almost making it. Happy for him.

Just a spin. Activity helps the knee. It may be drainage issue. Seems like it is worse when I sit for long periods of time.

Lost track of the Boston stuff once afternoon hit and I got overly busy at work and afterwards - no big snafus I hope!

30 minute run at a park that has a gravel trail. I definitely prefer pavement but this was ok for a change. Also did my first grass cut of the year for a neighbor so I’ll end up with a high step day even with 8 hours of work.

The Nike 2 hour “runners” opted out of Boston. That could have affected results? Rupp, Osaka, Hasay are Oregon project runners. Hopefully Salazar is running a clean program. Rupp should be a force in marathon running in years to come.

Didn’t see if Rupp wore the Zoom Vaporfly Elite? The carbon fiber plate shoe that the “two hour” runners have for the record breaking attempt. Friend of mine who has held it says it like holding “nothing”.

Speaking of running enhancements, my friend also offered me use of his ice vest for the Birmingham temperatures in June.

I want to be Kathrine Switzer when I grow up!

And…there is no way she is “elderly”

I must confess here that I had one too many glasses of wine at our friends’ Easter dinner. I was not impaired , but my stomach decided it was not good and I missed my morning run yesterday. Not planning to do that again.

Me too, FallGirl! Switzer is the kind of “elderly” I hope I become.

Pilates this morning - had to do a lot of stretching. I decided to send my Hokas back. The toebox is a little narrower than I am comfortable with, the shoe liner didn’t feel right and my calf is really bothering me. It started right after I tried them out on the treadmill so I’m pretty sure they were the culprit. $160 is too much for what would essentially end up being a fashion shoe.

Re: Oregon Project - I saw an interview with some of the Salazar runners who all talked about the emphasis on “mental” training in preparing for Boston. You really have to be disciplined.

It was fun tracking our friends at Boston yesterday. One friend who qualified last year at the Cleveland marathon in the sleet, hail, and miserable weather did extremely well yesterday in conditions totally opposite of his qualifying race. That heat looked really bad yesterday! Katherine Switzer is amazing!

sabaray - sorry your new Hokas didn’t work out. I’m glad you’re able to return them, that is way too much money for a shoe that isn’t going to work for you.

A shorter run tonight with the running club, then dinner afterwards to celebrate one of our member’s 40th birthday.

Katharine Switzer made an incredible time! Very inspiring, especially in that heat.

Got out for 6 miles this morning. Cooler, which was nice.

I think my next pair of shoes has to have a different toe box than the Asics Kayanos I’ve been wearing. I get callouses on my 2nd toe (who knew it was longer than my big toe). They felt fine when I tried them on in the store, and I don’t need a bigger size – just a different shape. If anyone has any suggestions, much appreciated.

Had a lovely walk yesterday around a beautiful park with a great waterfall. Minnehaha Falls is such a nice Minneapolis park. Walked 5.4 miles looking over the river and bluffs and then concluding at the falls. Perfect day!

Sounds wonderful, NM! That’s my kind of exercise.

Class - I wore the Kayano before I switched to Brooks. There’s definitely more room in the toebox on both the Adrenaline and the Transcend.

I want to take NM’s walk! Jealous!

Thank you, Sabaray! I will definitely check out those two Brooks styles.

North Minn – that sounds so nice. My brother lives in Mpls and whenever I visit, I love walking around the lake. Really makes a long walk go by fast.
