Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

Hope things go well MOWC, hopefully next time they will be more organized.

Ran 2 miles today at 9:58, then slowed to a walk. I haven’t been running as much lately with spending my energy walking. Also my allergies were going wild today.

Did an 800 time trial yesterday with no expectations-2:35. Surprised and happy with that because I didn’t push myself.

Got in 20k steps yesterday’s HS track meet-officiating and clerking. Headed to FL Friday for a 5 day vacation coupled with client event.

Good job, Ohio!
Where are you going in Florida? I’m in Naples Thurs-Sunday!

I had a nice 3.3 mile run with Back on My Feet this morning. I totally didn’t pay attention to the weather and was WAY too warm. Thank goodness it was a short run as I was miserably hot.

abasket - you are really going to make someone’s day when they find out their Fitbit has been found!

I have been really tired the past couple weeks. I am hoping to find some energy because I am really dragging.

Thanks MOWC. I will check out Altra and Topo.

That’s great, Ohio!

MK—how long is a while? I am not sure how long it will take me to adjust to the road bike or if I even can. It might be too aggressively aero for my new, older self. I am thinking a month trial? Riding in front of the TV three times a week for maybe an hour at a time? I say this so confidently; it could be twenty minutes and I will be pooped.

Swam. We were up late and so I didn’t make it to my morning practice. I said okay, I will swim at the uni and run an errand. That pool was closed. I was about to just say forget it but I didn’t. I made myself go back to my regular pool during lunch. The swim itself was meh, but the self discipline…I was proud.

Walked 5 indoor miles both yesterday and today. Loving getting outside so this was difficult. I must admit I did run in to Athleta and Nordstrom’s.

You’ve been burning the candle at both ends, @C3Baker - maybe a little rest might be a good idea? You don’t want to get too run down.

Busy day off today - ran a bit over 6, pup walk, then planted my rear end at the hairdressers, then to a medical appointment, then to the grocery, then to a Barre class, then a final pup walk. My legs are tired! Saw some interesting items at the grocery - “Peeps” flavored eggnog (marked down), lots and lots of Easter candy (also marked down) and in new and disgusting products, the Thomas limited edition Bacon Buttermilk Pancake English muffin. I’m going to pass. I also passed by the Starbucks “unicorn” beverages.

How’d the race go, MOWC?

Lizardly, depending on how you adjust the roller contact with the rear tire, you can see wear after only 3 rides depending on their duration. By “a while”, I was referring to when you expect to ride the bike outdoors. Changing back and forth between indoor and outdoor tires on a wheel gets to be a pain in the butt. You have to if you are going to ride outside. The differences with the rubber compounds almost guarantees you will lose tire grip when taking curves and turns if you tide a trainer tire outdoors and you will likely crash.

Company 5K in 29 minutes, which is a lot harder than I wanted to run. But- it was a race and all… Course was accurate (3.07, which is pretty close) and it was hot. Warm up and cool down for 4.1 miles. The president won and broke 20 again, which is really good- twice in a week! I felt like a lot of women were ahead of me, but I was 5th and they were all young. I’ll take it! Goal for a company race is not to throw up in front of your co-workers or have some sort of bathroom emergency! The shirts are a neon green plastic-y feeling tech fabric. Everyone but the president and I wore the shirt for the race. He and I had on singlets.

C3B- I agree with sabaray. Your schedule is pretty intense. I would be very exhausted. Mine is tough, but I don’t work as late as you seem to. I just flat get tired, so I can imagine how YOU feel!

Good day, sabaray! Peeps eggnog sounds awful.

Awesome job, MOfWC!

Unicorn drinks and peeps flavored eggnog - just reading about that makes we want to throw up.

As much as I bitched about this race all day (well, all week), once you finish and you are standing around chatting and commiserating with your co-workers, you feel great! It’s a neat thing that the company does for us and I DO appreciate it.

I wore my Topo Ultrafly shoes, which I consider a shorter run or 5K race shoe. Would probably be OK for 10K, too. I liked the shoes a lot in this 5K. I didn’t want to clomp along in my Hokas…

MOWC-nice event. Smart employees not to beat the company president!

We’re staying in Sarasota at a small motel on the beach where we’ve stayed a number of times. I have to drive to Orlando on Saturday for a client meeting.

I’ve been renting cars at off airport locations to save $$$. I take an uber from the airport to enterprise typically. I need to save money to buy my fitness toys!

That race does sound like a really neat thing, MOWC!

I did a 30 minute indoor bike workout using my app. It was one of the beginner ones and I was DRIPPING sweat. I’m looking forward to trying out a lot more of these workouts starting next week, when my runs will be much shorter than they have been.

@MomofWildChild – accurate measurement, I know it’s been off before, so that must have been a pleasure. And congrats on your run!

@nahnah12 – what app?

Full day yesterday; no chance to check in here. 4 mile run in the morning. Drove to NH (4 1/2 hrs R/T) to visit B in hospital. He’s finally in a regular room and the NG tube is out of his nose. He’s eating real food, but still hooked up to a nutrition bag since he’s lost so much weight. Not sure when he’ll be leaving; his white blood cell count needs to come down more. His arm is still swollen from the blood clot. Things are moving in the right direction, but, as H always says, he needs to get out of the hospital ASAP!

Can’t seem to drag myself to the gym this morning, so I’ll take the pup for a long walk a little later. Then I’ll walk to Book Club this evening.

Hi everyone. I’m about 300 posts behind at this point, but I’ll try to catch up! I have a new job that is going well, but I’m finding it hard to get my steps in. It’s a hard-core culture & we are expected to be at our desks. So I’ve added an extra day of running to my schedule & am trying to get a good walk in at lunch time. But then I miss the social time & getting to know my new colleagues. I’ll work it out somehow. The job is good so far, and getting back to a regular paycheck and benefits has been wonderful for my stress level.

A group of run club friends went to see the Boston Marathon movie last night - the documentary, not the Matt Damon film. It was really excellent. It followed the 2014 race and of course we all went crazy cheering on Meb to victory. Highly recommended!!

So good to see you Gertrude! Kudos to you for tackling your new position and that culture. I understand missing the social part of lunch but must say, I’ll bet that lunchtime walk does wonders for your mental health - maybe a co-worker or two would walk with you?

The movie sounds interesting! Maybe coming to Netflix???

Hi Gertrude (our half marathon Queen!) Smart getting a walk in. I feel like my morning run does not counteract the all day sitting I do at work. Good tip about the Boston Marathon movie.

Good job MOWC on the 5K! That sounds like a neat company and racing team you have. How is the “ringer” (fast guy recently hired) doing? Did he race too?

DD signed up for the Corporate Challenge. I’m glad she can run for her firm.

Gertrude- glad the job is working out. You’ll figure out the balance. Good to hear from you.

The ringer was sad to miss the race. He ran a fantastic 3:08 in Boston and wasn’t back yet!

Off to Naples FL for a few days for a conference. Hope to get a long run in Sunday morning.

2.6 early treadmill miles before heading to the airport.

CBB- continued well wishes for your brother.
