Glad to hear your brother continues to improve, CBBB. We miss you, Gertrude, but so glad the job is working out so well.
I didn’t want to get up this morning, that’s for sure, but dragged to the gym for a quick 35 minutes on the elliptical to keep the legs moving then home for the pup walk. The pollen is killing me.
Gertrude, happy to hear the job is going well. I can totally relate to being glued to the desk -my job can be like that, too! That movie sounds like a must see - Mr. B watched Meb’s finish live while I was still somewhere in the corrals or just starting the race. I would love to see the details!
@Classof2015 - is the Corporate Challenge in NYC? That’s the one my D has run in the last 3 years. Pretty sure she will run this year, too.
Missed yoga this AM, but had a good reason - 7:30 mammogram appointment. As always I paid the extra fee for the 3D upgrade. Ladies, if it’s been awhile you know what to do.
@FallGirl – yes – corporate challenge in Central Park. There are 2 dates May 31/June 1 (I’m not sure which one she’ll run in). So we can cheer on our D’s from afar! Hope the scan went well. I swear that machine was designed by a man.
CBB, thinking of your brother and glad there is some positive change.
Swam and picked up my bike. Canceled the fitness class until my knee is a little better----got to wonder if it is one of my problems. Those burpees? I should do some general strengthening before I go again.
I have a new car with a bunch of high tech sensors on it. The car goes nuts when I back up with the bike hitch on it. I have to figure out how to turn off the back up sensors when I am carrying my bike.
@MomofWildChild How do you like the Topo Ultrafly’s? I’d like something light and flat for both short distance sprinting/running and lifting. I’ve have Brooks Ghosts and UA Speedforms now for shorter distance and then Hoka Cliftons for longer runs.
I like the UltraFly a lot. I actually ran the race in MagnaFly which is lighter than UltraFly. I like UltraFly as more of a trainer, but MagnaFly was great as a racer.
Gertrude, I’m so happy to hear that the new job is good.
CBB–adding my thoughts for your B.
I took a 2 something mile run this morning before hitting the road to visit my mother. I got hit with either a quick onset of spring allergies or a head cold that slowed me down for a couple of days. I got smart and picked up Sudafed yesterday so I could finally sleep. Running today felt good. I’m ready for some beach walking.
@CBBBlinker You and your brother are still in my thoughts!
@dmd77 It’s called aaptiv. Right now I have a 30 day free trial, but I’m going to subscribe after it’s ended. It’s kind of like having a personal trainer right in your ear, so that’s pretty cool. I’ve liked all of the “classes” I’ve tried so far. In fact, I’m going to stop going to the spin classes at my gym and just use some of the spin bikes that are out on the floor and this app, as I feel like I’ve gotten a better workout from the two app classes than the real classes!
I am getting ready to go for my 3 mile run (last run before this Saturday’s half!). I was so looking forward to running outside, but it looks like a storm is coming in.
Going to the REI garage sale tomorrow (uh oh), I wonder if it’s the crazy deal with thousands of people running for the $20 boots and backpacks that it used to be! We are hiking the Grand Canyon this weekend, just rim to rim (about 17 miles), and I am struggling to figure out the type of shoes. A little late, now! My husband is just going to wear his Hoka running shoes, but I’m uncomfortable wearing running shoes, seems a little dicey as far as stability. We will have poles, though.
I am torn between wearing my Altra running shoes (that I love), trail running shoes, or lightweight hiking boots. We plan on going pretty fast, but I am worried about ankles and traction.I am also worried about wearing brand new shoes on a long hike/run that I have not tried out. Ahhhh!! Anyone have any opinions about this?
I don’t know if anyone has linked this article yet, but I love this. Not that she ran the Boston Marathon (and got a good time) at 70 years old, though that is indeed impressive, but that she ran it at 20 years old and endured a lot of crap. This is truly motivating to me.
First structured outdoor training ride of the season today. It hurt so good, :D. 30 minute warm up base ride followed by 3x 6 minute intervals at time trial pace (i.e. as hard as I could go and last 6 minutes right at the edge) with 4 minutes off between intervals. Ended with 30 minutes paceline drills at tempo pace. At one point during a work interval, charging up a hill, actually hit 534 watts. That lasted all of 5 seconds, lol. What was surprisingly nice was that my hr, wattage and avg speed were consistent throughout the work intervals and were at the levels I was hitting in the middle of last season. Guess those endlessly stultifying indoor winter workouts paid off!
I’ve given up trying to talk him into anything. He wore his Hoka’s for the Pikes Peak run, and he loves them. Figures using poles will be a bonus going downhill. At this point, I’m just worried about myself.
I just got a pair of trail runner Altras, but there is no ankle protection whatsoever, and they feel really loose around the ankles, even with the runners lace. I have a problem with narrow ankles but wide toe box, and almost nothing works. Maybe I’ll just see what they have at REI tomorrow. Probably everything is going to suck, so it’s hopeless.
