3 mile run after a weekend of slugdom. Cold rainy weekend with no motivation

Very exciting time, Gertrude!

@Classof2015 - I would encourage you to check this program - I think I recommended it previously but it’s what I plan to follow for the next several months. https://www.amazon.com/Runners-World-Train-Smart-Forever/dp/1623367468

Yoga today–hips and hamstrings class. Small steps for me: kept to my intention–no sweet/sugar at the bridal shower.

GertrudeMc: good luck to your D!

My Fitbit has been out of commission since Friday. Strap of my new Charge2 kept falling off–figured I would lose the whole thing so I took it off. Company is send me a new strap (free). Hope it gets here soon–I feel like I am missing something.

@Sabaray – thank you! I clicked on the link and read a little bit – it looks great! I’d heard of the FIRST program. I’m going to get this and I will follow it.

Hello to all! Congrats to all the weekend racers.

Friday I did 3.5 miles; today 4 miles. We’re back at the beach, and I’m up and “running” at my gym here. I also went to the driving range today – my weekly Women’s League games start tomorrow. I am definitely rusty!

All results from my physical on Thursday were excellent, except my platelet count is low. The same thing happened 2 years ago at my previous physical; the doc had me come in a few weeks later for a 2nd blood test, and the count was in the normal range. (Low side of normal, but normal.) Now this. She wants me to see a blood specialist. I’m trying not to worry since I feel fine, don’t have any bleeding issues, etc. etc. (I probably shouldn’t have run home to consult Dr. Google, though …) Plus she gave me the name of a sports medicine practice to see about my gait issues.

I’ve read the author’s first book and attended FIRST back when I got back into running 6 years ago. I think it’s a good approach. That being said it isn’t easy. They expect you to run fast quality runs on your run days to make up for your off days. (They don’t believe in junk miles and LSD.)

CBB, good job taking care of yourself and getting your physical done. I need to get back on track with a couple tests.

I hope the platelet count resolves itself again.

CBBBlinker- Hope things are ok. Never fun to have that on the mind.

Sabaray- That looks interesting! I also don’t have much on the horizon but will need some kind of something to keep me focused and motivated.

Today has just been a wash. Want to complain but won’t!

Especially because I just read that the runner that collapsed yesterday at the 10k ended up dying. Very sad. Very few details; would guess it was the heat, but who knows?

Hoping to get back on track tomorrow and the rest of the week. I am going to try to do better about remembering how lucky we are to be able to do whatever it is we can!

CBB- I hope the blood issue is another false alarm!

I like junk miles!

On the way home from the airport. I’m tired.

Nahnah- Sorry to hear about the death. Sad.

That’s horrible about the death Nahnah. A poignant thought - really, we are not superheroes - listen to your body. It’s not failure to stop. It literally could save your life.

Today’s exercise was moving bags and boxes… Up and down the stairs - kiddo moved into her sublet closer to work.

CBBBlinker – hope it turns out to be nothing. Glad your doc picked up on it. Don’t Google – I did when I got the weird “low ceruloplasmin” result (turned out to be nothing) but I was very stressed out by all the different diseases I could potentially have.

Got to run tomorrow. My exercise yesterday was the toughest work out of all – finding a wedding dress! I got one I liked and my mom said it was too old for me ha ha. I’m like Mom? I’m 54. Less than 6 weeks to go. Finally found one.

I got a 5 mile run in last night. I really didn’t want to do it, I have noticed that it is really difficult for me to run on Monday evenings. I seem to be so tired when I get home from work on Mondays. But I forced myself out the door and it was OK. It was really, really windy. So I had 2.5 miles directly into 22 mph winds and about froze - my ears and hands were so cold. Then I turned around and had the tailwind going home and I was sweating to death! Tonight is a shorter and slower run with the running club.

CBBBlinker - sorry the bloodwork is causing concern. I hope the repeat test comes out OK and there’s a harmless explanation for the numbers.

Gertrude - it’s exciting that your daughter is soon to start her senior year. Such a fun time of life!

Bunsen - congrats to your daughter moving into her own place. I hope she likes the new job!

nahnah - so sorry to hear that the runner didn’t survive. It is very unsettling to witness something like that.

Not to be irreverent - I always post a picture of H and I at the start line before every race. Somebody commented about that recently, and I responded that if I died during the race people could always look back and say “but at least she died happy…”. I guess that sounds inappropriate, but honestly that would be a good way to go (at least if I was in my 80s and still running races!).

Slept in this morning, walked the pups and went to a mat class at lunch which felt terrific. I still do not feel that great from the weekend so I am trying to take it easy. I just have it ingrained in my head that if I stop pushing myself so hard I will gain weight overnight. I don’t know how to get over that mentality.

Congrats on finding the dress, C2015 - I bet you’re a very young 54!

^haha thx Sabaray! I think my mom still thinks I need help zipping my jacket up.

That is really sobering, nahnah. But not entirely surprising. It’s a lot of stress we put on our hearts, and heat and humidity just add to the stress.

LOL about moms being moms! I keep thinking, “I need to send some food to kiddo so she would not starve!” She is making money now… This is a real job, so she will be fine! This is when they finally leave the nest, not when they go off to college or fellowships.

Not just moms, us dads too! Especially with our daughters, lol. It’s really funny, I didn’t conceptualize my daughter as being “all grown up” when she went to college. Not when she graduated college. Not when she carved out a profession on her own and became totally self supporting. Not even when she got married last October. But when she and her husband went to settlement on their own house a couple of weeks ago and moved in - then it really hit me that she’s all grown up. But not so grown up that she didn’t call daddy to help her with the moving :D.

Lol, Michael. So true. I am sure Mr. B feels the same way as you do. We helped big kiddo pour a concrete pad for her hubby’s shed at their house shortly after they bought it. A house and a spouse… how much more independent can one get?

What a gift to be parents and kids that enjoy being together and have the desire and means to help each other out - nothing wrong with that!

Well, it would have been a beautiful morning for an outdoor run but I headed to the treadmill so I could focus more on my HR. Neighborhood terrain makes it really hard to avoid those spikes. 3.55 miles, including a warmup and cooldown, something I’ve been neglecting. Walked the pups with Mr. Sabaray.

The Post had an interesting article on organic milk Monday. I have started buying our milk and eggs at the cooperative - my eggs have the local address of the farmer that produced them and it’s in an area I frequently run in. Nice to know exactly where your food came from!
