All I can think about today is how this is the first and probably only day this week that is not raining, windy or cold - and how I have so much yard work to do…and I hoped to run later…and all I really want to do is punt work so I can go home and take care of it all! May try and scoot out an hour early or so…one way or another I’ll probably be tired and sore tonight!!!
Thinking of you CBB!
4 walking miles yesterday. Going out again today. Started my no added sugar lifestyle change this week. Hoping it helps my water retention and achy stomach. Bought a spiralizer to try some new healthy and fun recipes. Had curly baked sweet potato fries last night. They were delicious!
Going to try making my own “zoodles” tonight instead of buying prepackaged.
^^^ I for one, would love to see links to any of your recipe successes @NorthMinnesota ! I’m especially interested in the curly baked sweet potato fries!
Did half mile sprint intervals yesterday- with 25-30 mph headwinds. 14 mph never felt so hard, lol. Then we reversed directions. 32 mph never felt so easy :D. Today I finally succumbed and took a rest day after 13 consecutive days of training. I was going to lift tonight and take a break tomorrow but my mind just rebelled at the thought of picking up a weight. I feel like such a lazy bum!
Wow, Michael! Those are tough intervals. I despise wind on a bike even more than with running! You are far from a lazy bum! WildChild is racing a bike time trial up in the Poconos this weekend.
MK, if it was one of us saying that we did all that and didn’t want to rest I think you would craft an eloquent paragraph telling us why it was important to give our body a rest! So, please, rest and recover for 24 hours!!
Tried to squeeze in as much outdoor time as I could after work today since it was somewhat sunny and about 60. Our weather has really been kind of crappy and the next three days are rain and 40’s, maybe low 50’s. The weather forecaster said to expect “rain of Biblical proportions” - what?!
So, grass cutting and an abasket 5k to round out the night.
MOWC, I find wind to be worse than the hardest hills! My training partner is also doing a time trial, I think up in the Poconos, on Saturday. Is Wildchild’s on Saturday? Does his have a Masters Women’s division?
Lol, abasket, you’re so right! It was a combination of being hyper focused on training for my 4 day Habitat tour in June so I’m making sure to get in 4 days of riding per week, 2 foundation with hills and 2 HIIT, and also having a lot of fun revamping my strength training to include more body weight stuff for outdoor fun and frolic. I just got carried away, ;).
I think his is Sunday. It’s 16 miles in the Drums/Hazleton area.
Oh the spring chores now that we’re back at the beach! Combined with a pup who decides the fresh mulch/compost in all the planting beds was put there specifically for her to run through => chasing her to wash off her feet before she comes inside => exhausted me. Good thing she’s cute!
18 holes of golf, walking on Tuesday. We played about 14 holes in the fog, which was a first for me. Good thing I know the course since on many holes we couldn’t even see the flag on the green! Great to be back with this bunch of women.
Made a bunch of medical appointments yesterday – blood specialist, sports medicine orthopedist, mammogram. Still need to make one with an eye doc since it’s been a few years. Amazingly, I’ve been able to get appointments that coincided with times I’ll be back in MA for something else.
Oh my goodness, we need to build an ark! The rain has been relentless. Yesterday morning I had a good 5 mile run with Back on My Feet. I left work early to get home and cut the grass before the rain hit again. I only got about halfway done before the rain started, so I was pretty soaked by the time I was done. We have rain forecast for the next several days. I am really hoping it breaks early, as Saturday is the Mini Marathon (a half marathon) and our kids are all coming home for it. D flies in tomorrow evening and S and SIL will arrive later Friday night. S and SIL will be run/walking with the emphasis on walking as SIL injured his knee a few weeks ago and isn’t able to run much. It sounds pretty miserable to have to walk 13 miles in the rain. I am planning to run with D. She is a lot slower than I am so it won’t be a good time on the clock, but it will be a fun time. She lives in Seattle and assures me that she is very used to running in the rain.
I don’t think there is anything more difficult than cycling into the wind. Although I’ve been despising pushing the weight sled from the gym lately. My inner sailor mouth comes out when I cycle against the wind.
Michael - slacker!
I wish my sailor mouth would be more “inner”.
Howling wind and some rain this morning so I stayed inside. 3.4 boring miles on the treadmill. The early morning news is extremely dull. I don’t have cable channels (well, not easily) on the treadmill TV.
A few years ago I rode for the first time a hilly combo road and gravel ride aptly called the Hell of Hunterdon. It’s a March ride, 76 miles and no one is ever in shape for it. That year the winds were blowing with gusts up to 45 mph or so. A bunch of us were riding together laughing about how miserable the wind was making a ride that was putting a big hurt on us anyway. Suddenly, a cross-wind gusted on a back country road. We watched in disbelief as one of the riders in the group with an aero frame and wheels (lots of windage) was literally picked up, bike and all, and deposited on the shoulder of the oncoming lane. Miraculously, she never went down and just kept on pedaling. It was just bizarre, like a giant hand had reached down, picked her up and moved her over. Common sense then prevailed and we quickly decided to abandon the ride and return to the start!
That sounds like a really fun weekend, C3Baker - hope the weather clears by then! Enjoy your family time!
7 miles this morning - beautiful day. Rain arrives for us tonight.
Wow, I tried some of the NOW Whey Protein Isolate last night after running (chocolate). That is really good, like a tasty chocolate shake. I think Bunsen recommended that. It makes you feel like you’re having a treat.
Putting out a call to some of our DEHW thread members who have been a bit MIA! @PlantMom , @fireandrain and others!!!
Busdriver - glad you liked it, but the credit should go to someone else.
I swear it was you!! Except that you didn’t drink the chocolate. Or whomever recommended it didn’t.
But I am known to have a very faulty memory. In one ear and out the other.
That’s why they don’t allow disc wheels at Kona in the Ironman WC. There can be extremely strong crosswinds and the bikes would blow over. Sometimes they do anyway!
Spent the day working and building an ark - seriously, it has rained significantly with no signs of stopping ALL.DAY.LONG. I knew I’d be in trouble with my steps because I was off campus today with limited walking opportunities. BUT somehow between walking to farther bathrooms, doing the 6 flights of stairs up to our floor three times (about 400 steps) and topping that all off with about 10 minutes of jogging in my house from one end to the other and up and down all three floors, I managed to meet my minimum 11K and then some. WHEW!
Not the best exercise day ever for sure, but a little something to show for it.
