Midwest- check out SuperFeet insoles. (fingers crossed- I’m 65 and been running for 40 years with almost no feet problems.)
I second SuperFeet. Good stuff.
@Midwest67 If there is a good orthodist (I think that’s what they are called) where you live you might want to consult with him/her. Custom made insoles might be worth it. I get insoles at the running store but knock wood don’t have any real foot issues. Good luck.
One of the women I run with uses a small pad that fits right on the ball of the foot. She struggles with Morton’s neuroma and this seems to help.
@Midwest67 - is the pain new since you started hiking? Or have you always been hiking and the pain is new?
@romanigypsyeyes - hope the results are normal. Please keep us posted midweek or when you find out.
Did a 5 Mile race today and came in 2nd for my age group (39:11) which has never happened before! Mile 1 was hard to keep a pace because it was so tightly packed - so you’re either going slower or faster than you want.
Before the start, they said “watch out for fallen trees”. We all kind of looked at each other. Then they said “sorry - we meant fallen leaves.” Phew!
DS has started running and signed up for a 5k!
Happy Sunday to all.
Great job, @Classof2015! The trees were no obstacle to great racing… I mean the leaves!
We discovered a new kind of yogurt - Oui by Yoplait. Finally, Yoplait made some edible yogurt, and it is really yummy. Not a low fat product, but it tastes good and is very filling. It comes in glass jars, and Mr. just had to comment that the jars looked like urine collection cups at the doctor’s office. LOL. I thought they looked like they could be used as votive candle holders for a fall farm-themed dinner table decor!
Great job, Classof2015. Nice time. Leaves can be slippery!
Glad for the report on the yogurt. I’ve seen the ads and it looked good. I’ll try it.
7 miles yesterday and 7 miles today. I’m tired. I’m trying to adjust to the cold weather. It just always seems sort of sudden.
Thanks @BunsenBurner and @MomofWildChild - appreciate it. When I remember when I was a kid, 50+ seemed so ancient - and here we all, out there running. Before every race I just feel grateful.
I will look for that yogurt. Such a good source of protein.
How many weeks to Monkey, MOWC?
The Oui yogurt is delicious - not too sweet. I love the coconut and black cherry.
Nice job on your race, Class.
Too cold and rainy for me today - rest day. Yesterday was a hilly 10.58 miles. As I reported elsewhere, 78 Fitbit flights. Feel pretty good though today.
Congratulations @Classof2015.
I feel grateful, too. I never ever dreamed that I would be runner at age 60.
Thanks FallGirl and Sabaray!
I bet you’re an inspiration to your DD, FallGirl!
May she (and all our kids) be going strong at 60 and beyond.
Exercise for today - moving the last pieces of furniture out of House1. If all goes according to the plan, House1 will be soon adopted by a nice family with two cute kids. I am happy that we lived in the area not so hot for Chinese investors! Keeping my fingers crossed for an uneventful closing.
Off to do some lifting.
Monkey is 3 weeks from today but I don’t think I’m going to run it. Twin Cities about did me in for marathons- at least for awhile. I might run half of it (there is no official Half Monkey). During Twin Cities I told myself that if I made it to the finish line I wouldn’t run another marathon for awhile. Without my son being able to run it, I guess I made a nice donation to the Warner Parks System! That’s ok…
I think that’s a good way to feel @MomofWildChild. It’s important to know your limits. Sorry to hear your son won’t be able to be there, hope he’s not injured.
I like oui yoghurt also. It’s a good size also, not too much. I like the other flavors mentioned but like the lemon also.
@Classof2015 I do remember another outburst of rebellion in 2016 or 2015. I stopped wearing flip-flops, as a result. A friend of mine said too much mileage in flip-flops can change the angle of the forefoot and drive the metatarsal bones down, irritating them. Who knows, I stopped wearing them. Feet got better, whether it had anything to do with that or not, IDK.
Now, I’m having another foot rebellion. No, I haven’t always been hiking, but I have been walking 2-5 miles daily. The hiking on Sundays has definitely raised the mileage. Did 9 miles this morning with the club.
My feet are sore, for sure, but I’m guessing that by the time I’m done with work tonight (on my feet) it will be very uncomfortable.
And, duh, I should take an Advil right now.
If you think you have some real inflammation in your feet, try treating it with a prescription-level regimen of Advil. 3 ( or if you are small, at least 2) three times a day for 10 days. The goal is to knock out the inflammation. We all tend to just dabble with ibuprofen, but it you are really trying to treat inflammation, it requires the real regimen. This was advice from one of the best PTs in the country. You might try it.
Yes,my son is injured. He made it through his triathlon season, but had to quit today in his SwimRun event after the first run leg. You are tethered to a partner and it is technical trails and ice cold swimming (in a wetsuit) with multiple legs. You run in your wetsuit and swim in your running shoes- no changes of equipment. Up and down hills and in and out of water. He did well in it last year and he and his partner were trying to win. He knew he was injured for the last week plus, but thought he could power through. They invested a lot of time, money and travel, but it wasn’t to be. He thinks he might have a stress fracture in his shin. He’ll get it checked this week. He’s disappointed about Monkey, which he was also trying to win. Maybe next year. He had a successful triathlon season, though.
Hey Midwest, do you go barefoot much? Has this new level of hiking ramped up quickly? Just trying to guess why your feet are rebelling. I have never had foot issues and lately feel like my feet are weak and wonder if it is because I don’t go barefoot as often as I used to.
@MomofWildChild Thank you for the Advil regimen.
@Lizardly The Sunday hikes are new. 3 hours of walking. But, I am on my feet a lot. I walk the dog plus work on my feet. I wear minimalist shoes (barefoot shoes) at work and out and about when I’m not wearing Tevas or winter boots. I think my feet should be strong.
A friend suggested loss of fat pads with age plus needing to get the inflammation down.
Maybe Advil will take care of it, along with an epsom soak. I tend to forget to take something for pain.
Believe me, when the pain goes away, I’ll forget all about it. Ball of foot pain? What?

Hope you find a solution to your foot (feet) pain @Midwest67 !

I also buy Oui when I don’t buy Noosa. I just wish there was a screw on top instead of the foil - I always mix my yogurt with fruit and often nuts/granola so one jar is a couple servings for me.

It is touted to be like a “french” yogurt. When we were in France by cousin who is a runner had a refrigerator STOCKED with yogurt. She ate it at every meal (actually she seemed to survive on it!) and we ate it daily for breakfast and sometimes another meal - something about it was FABULOUS. The Oui yogurt isn’t a perfect match, but it is quite good. I find I stick with the basic flavors as opposed to most of the fruit flavors now (so honey, coconut, vanilla and lemon) because I always mix stuff in.

Had to share that this weekend I was on a “Mom (me) and kids” weekend with my 2 daughters, my son and one daughter’s roommate. They wanted to stop at this nice sized thrift shop in D1’s upscale neighborhood. Not your average Goodwill…better brands and in fact, nicely arranged with racks of certain brands, “JCrew”, “Anthro”, etc. They had a great time looking around - I did end up buying a nice denim dress that I have been searching for for about 2 years (JCrew).

ANYWAY…just when we were leaving - which was when they were minutes from closing…I noticed a section I hadn’t noticed previously…RACKS of athletic wear - Lululemon racks, Athleta racks…WHAT?! Most things were next to new. I had to just walk away and tell myself I would plan a trip there next time. My athletic wardrobe can ALWAYS use a few more pieces - especially stuff like Athleisure tops, dresses, etc. that I can wear to work!
