Midwest - do you have access to a whirlpool with strong jets? I have the same problem and find 2-3 minutes of this help my pain

Wait, what? What city is this in? Maybe I can get a layover there. Shoot, I’ve grabbed trips for worse reasons…free breakfast, decent haircut, good happy hour…

@Midwest67, I bought a pair of minimalism hiking shoes and found that they killed the balls of my feet. I couldn’t wear them even casually. In fact, they were Merrills and when I went to one of their outlets, the sales associate convinced me to contact Merrill.

I was able to send them back and was sent another pair of hiking shoes which I wore in Europe. Walked 10/13 miles everyday on concrete and cobblestones and no foot pain at all.

I might ditch the barefoot shoes for a week or so and see if that helps. If you haven’t, I would suggest going to a local running store and getting fitted for a pair of athletic shoes. With good inserts.

My bil was a big proponent of the barefoot shoes when they came out (there was a book, born to run, I think). He couldn’t tolerate them either. He’s a triathlete and runs a high amount of miles training. Wears a more traditional running shoe now.

@BunsenBurner - I hope your house finds a nice family! Closings can be so stressful. The whole buying and selling thing takes a lot of heavy lifting.

@MOWC - sorry about your son. You did a great time at the Twin Cities Marathon.

@Midwest67 - my friend said she thinks we wear out the fat pads in the balls of our feet. She started wearing cushiony inserts to do gym class and said it helped.

I tend to favor my left side for all activities. I sometimes get almost like a spot where there is a build up of dead/calloused skin in the middle of the ball of my left foot. It can hurt if I don’t have a little padding when I’m exercising or even when I’m not. For this reason, I stay away from inexpensive or really flat flats now.

@busdriver11 it was in Columbus! But I can’t give away all my secret finds until I get the chance to go back!!

Thanks, Classof2015. I’m just trying to hit the 2000 miles for 2017 and then I’ll relax a little in January.

Advil must have made a big difference yesterday. Despite the hike, then working, then walking the dog this morning, it’s a dull pain instead of screeching. I’ll try to pay more attention to the day to day details so I can figure out what’s going on.

@ohiopublic No, no easy access to whirlpool jets, but a good epsom salt foot soak today is in order.

Tumor appears to be benign. Just needs to be monitored. They’re leaving it alone until it causes symptoms.

Interesting. The FDA moves to revoke soy’s heart health claims stating that the totality of currently available scientific evidence calls into question the certainty of soy protein and heart health relationship:

The current allowed claims list:

That’s an interesting article, Bunsen. Thanks for posting the link.

@Midwest67 - I love Epsom salts! But I also love the whirlpool jets when I get a pedicure. That might help too.

@romanigypsyeyes - so glad it’s benign! I know you thought the test was routine but still you must be relieved.

@MomofWildChild I’m glad you’re going to pass on the Monkey. It sounds too brutal to be worth it and frankly, you have nothing to prove. You ran a great race in MN and you’re really pushing yourself to stay ahead of your pace bunny. It probably wouldn’t be all that great since your son isn’t doing it. Is your daughter still planning to participate?

The forecast for my marathon on Saturday looks a little better. Yesterday it was rain and possible thunderstorms. Now it is only 50% chance of rain. Hoping for the best. H has been struggling with injuries since February (torn labrum) but is planning to do the full even though he really has not trained for it. He’s going to get a cortisone shot in his hip tomorrow. I think he’s foolish, but I’ve given my opinion and just keeping my mouth shut now.

^^^ Good luck to you and your husband! I hope the rain holds off. My daughter wasn’t going to do Monkey. She’s only done it once. Sunday is a work day for her. She was going to come out and watch her brother start and then come after her church service, but she won’t have to now. I always volunteer and I might run half of it if the weather is decent. Monkey activities start Thursday late afternoon and continue until Sunday night. It’s very fun, and will be more fun if I don’t actually have to run the race!

I admit I am one of those relieved you’re going to sit Monkey out. It just doesn’t sound fun and you’ve had such a great year of running - why ruin a good thing?

The good thing about Monkey is that there is no pressure since it’s so hard and so many of my friends come every year. The bad thing is that I am such a head case about ANY race. I just can’t put that on myself with all the other things I’m finding to stress over right now. I also needed one long run between Twin Cities and Monkey and I had no interest in doing it! Monkey even has an optional early start so that the slower runners can be finished in plenty of time to enjoy the beer area post-race. A LOT of runners choose the early start. I probably would not have done that, but I would have been late for the beer and all the potluck food. As a volunteer, I can graze while everyone else is running!

MOfWC, I am glad that you are not doing the Monkey. I am cautiously optimistic that I can try to join you there next year.

Sitting here waiting for the escrow to send us the recording numbers… the buyers’ loan got funded. That is a good thing as they were waiting for their buyers to close, too. A chain of closings of sorts… not without glitches as we caught a couple of financial errors.

@C3Baker – hope the weather is good for your marathon. Does your DH have an option to do a half? I hope you both make it through with no pain.

Checking weather for NYC marathon for DH. Now looks like rain and high of 65. Hoping it doesn’t rain the whole race. Shoes get heavy when wet.

Did 7 miles this morning with my running group. I had bought tickets for a lecture with Meb and Katharine Switzer, then realized I had a conflict (phone didn’t sync calendar to Outlook for some reason) so I gave them to two of the younger women I run with. I’ll be interested to hear about it.

Tiny study. But interesting.

Tiny, but gives researchers a good lead at what to look at further. Calorie restriction will get you to the lower weight, but exercise and active lifestyle will keep the pounds from coming back. Great read.

Attention lulu shoppers: the much loved by everyone Align pant now comes in full length! Yay. I can wear it as tights with short boots.

Those have to be my favorites! So comfy.

This week I got a very nice catalogue from Tracksmith. Has anyone ever seen/tried any of their products? Very expensive.
