^ Do it!
I wouldn’t. You might miss some good TV that week!
@Midwest67 “Live. Fate loves the fearless.”
Midwest- I spent a month by myself training in Flagstaff AZ this past May. Great experience. Do it.
@Midwest67 plenty of time to train between now & August. You go, girl!
What’s stopping you except saying “YES”!
Thanks for the encouragement! Still laughing at “…You might miss some good TV that week!”
The couch will miss you!!!
Deposit put down on the hiking trip! Woo!
It’s never too early to start doing burpees. :!! :))
@Midwest67 - good for you. My friend just did a hiking trip in Peru. She traveled with two other 58 year old women. They were sometimes the last ones to make camp at night but they did it. They trained pretty heavily for several months leading up to the trip.
Along the lines of doing things while you are still physically able. My H and I have booked a bareboat sailboat charter for Tahiti in May. It will just be the 2 of us on the boat.
Anyone ever run a race in the snow? 15k tomorrow and it will be snowing. I’ve run races where it started to snow during the race but no real build up. Worried about slipping. And what to wear (dress for rain basically?) tia
Running in the snow is the best! I would wear my normal shoes and just be careful with your footing. The roads will be plowed I’m sure.
Wear layers. You’ll warm up after 1/2 mike or so. I always think I dress too warm. But I would wear fleece lined tights. Tank, long sleeve top, I have Smartwool, jacket on top, I have. Lululemon run for cold or north face thermoball. Smartwool socks, gloves and hat. If you think you’ll be cold you can add a fleece. I’m not sure how cold it’s going to be.
There is something so great about being in the snow and being warm on the inside and all the snow falling. Snow is so much better than rain, you don’t get so wet. And it’s not like wearing a plastic bag on top which is how I feel in the rain.
Have fun! The pictures will be great! A Santa run in the snow. Hope that wasn’t too much information
Ha thanks deb922! I love all that info! I do have a pair of fleece lined tights – good idea! I appreciate all the tips!
I love running in snow as long as it isn’t slippery or covering potholes. It usually isn’t too bitter cold if it is actually snowing. Wind is a big factor. Enjoy!
Thanks! Yes temps should be in the 30s so manageable and only 4 MPH wind.
Usually snow isn’t slippery - it’s the ice that’s bad. Have fun!
Ah good point – so as long as temps are above freezing, I should be ok. Thanks!
Running in the snow is great fun. I agree to be aware of any slippery areas on the road. If the snow will be blowing or heavy, think about how to keep it out of your eyes. A brimmed hat? Sunglasses?
One of my favorite running memories is of a fifteen mile race in cold, blowing snow out in a rural part of Ohio. We ended up doing like an Indian run, with each of us taking turns being the leader and blocking the wind and snow. And I remember changing into dry clothes at the finish line and then having some hot soup.
I’ve seen people on summer hikes use these gaiters to keep debris out of their low trail runners/hikers.
I wonder if it would work well for snow?
