Folks running in Alaska told me they used plastic grocery bags as running shoe liners.
Good luck on tomorrowâs run @Classof2015! Let us know how it goes.
Thanks for all the tips, lizardly, Midwest67, Bunsen! I should have worn a hat (just wore ear wrap) and snow was definitely going right in my eyes.
@FallGirl - race went well! Not slippery, thankfully. Ended with a 1:13 time. Fingers crossed thatâs enough for our team standings. It was pretty running through Central Park as snow was falling.
@Classof2015 - glad the race went well!
I ran with my group this morning and with the snow falling it was like running in a snow globe.
Hoping for a quick response- I have an opportunity today to buy a pair of Hoka shoes for my D at 65% off. She tried on my Stinson model but felt she didnât have enough stability⊠Any suggestions for a model that gives more stability? Iâm going to ask them at the Deckers store but thought of this thread. Thanks
Arahi is the stability model and itâs very cushioned and wonderful.
@MomofWildChild - thank you so much. I got her a pair of the Arahi 2 also a pair of Tracer 2. Each pair was just $45 which is a great price. I also got myself a couple of new pairs and my H a pair of the Gaviotas.
Good! Sounds like you did great! My triathlete son races in the Tracer.
Anyone here experiencing frustration with their Garmin devices? I had been using my admittedly older iphone (6s) to sync to Garmin Connect and with the latest update (who knows if itâs Garmin or Apple), Iâm not able to. My 235 is extremely confused - my phone says itâs not paired, my Garmin says itâs connected - reading the Garmin forums reveals this to be a known issue and it has been for some time. Hoping Iâll still be able to upload by computer, but for now todayâs run is lost somewhere. Does anyone have the Fitbit Ionic? I donât want to have to run with my phone but I also donât want to spend a lot on a new device if it doesnât work well. Any other recommended devices that are reliable? I need HR and built in GPS. Thanks for any suggestions.
Have you tried turning your bluetooth off for a few minutes and back on. Unpair and re-pair the device. Make sure it isnât going to another device. I had a problem with my iTouch grabbing my 235 data without me knowing it and my phone then wouldnât get it.
Remarkably, I have done the unpairing/repairing of the Garmin and the phone; uninstalled and reinstalled the app; not making a bit of difference. If I push the sync, it crawls along and then quickly finishes, but nothing appears in activities. Reading the Garmin forums, it appears others are experiencing this issue and there wasnât a permanent solution last time I checked. I will try downloading connected to the computer next time I run.
So, if anyone has an Ionic and can offer opinions, Iâd love to hear them.
The only problem I have is (daily) is the Bluetooth connection between the 235 and the iPhone. If Iâm impatient Iâll power off/on bothe the phone and the Garmin and it will usually sync after that. You shouldnât lose any data since it is always there on your watch?
Ohio- When you open Connect on your phone, do you pull it down to start the sync? That always worked for me with the 235.
Ugh. Itâs too cold here to enjoy being outside. The dog cannot handle it.
So, I took the opportunity to clean and straighten up the free weights area in the basement, which has sat neglected and unused since 2013 (I found my old notes!).
I did it before, started with baby steps and got stronger, and I can do it again.
MOWC- yes either that or it tap the arrows at the top. As I mentioned sometimes Garmin 235 is âghostedâ that indicates it has lost the Bluetooth connection. Thatâs why I have to turn off the watch and/or the phone to reconnect the Bluetooth.
Not a Garmin owner so canât offer any info but hope it gets resolved.
Any one run a 4M race in some cold weather? I signed up for a NYE run. Supposed to be 8 degrees. I found this article (interesting/amusing): https://www.runnersworld.com/running-tips/is-cold-weather-running-bad-for-you
Did a 5 mile Xmas eve run at 20 degrees. No lungs or other extremities frozen! Actually been thinking about a 5k nye race but thinking otherwise since it will be close to ZERO. Ever since I watched the movie âWind Riverâ Iâve been hesitant to run in frigid conditions. Two characters die in the movie due to frozen lungs
I used to ski in really cold temps. I suspect running would be not much different - warm socks and layers, layers, layers plus good mittens and hats. Just make sure you donât get frostbite on any exposed skin! Have fun!
We are back to 45 degrees here. The snow already melted.
^ohiopublic â thatâs what I thought of too (Wind River)! Lungs freezing. Apparently (according to the article) your whole body will freeze (i.e., die) first. My big thing is the asthma thing when itâs really cold. Did a 7 mile run (20 degrees) with my running group on Wednesday and kept a gaiter up the whole time to breathe through.
Good approach, BunsenBurner. I just have to make sure my layers donât impede movement (especially since itâs a short race). They have sparking cider at Mile 2 so I might just pause and enjoy some bubbly.
I might bail if it seems too hostile.
I have already bailed on a New Yearâs Day 5K here. I love to run when itâs around 30 degrees, but it looks as if it might be about half that.
