Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

I cannot wait for this bitter cold weather to break. It has disrupted my morning routine (walking the dog) and I’m feeling yucky.

I won’t be able to hike tomorrow due to my work schedule, and the hike & New Year’s Day tailgate party on Monday? Ugh, the high is supposed to 5. I’ll skip that.

Please, mid to upper 20s would be just fine. Not this!

I made my goal of 2000 miles for the year. I actually didn’t decide to try for that until after my October 1 marathon. 2000 miles is too much for me, but with the 3 marathons/training, I was so close to being on pace that I decided to go for it. I hit it yesterday, and added 8 more today. Streak is at 910 days.

I hear you @Midwest67. It’s too cold for me to run outside and I miss it.

@MomofWildChild - That is a lot of miles and a lot of dedication. Congratulations!

Midwest, I agree 100%. We don’t have a 20 degree or higher day in the forecast for the next week. Pardon me, but it sucks!!

Thanks to my year-round club swimmer’s 4:30 am swimming schedule 6 days a week, I began going to the gym and have my workout done by 6:30 am! Hopefully I will keep this up when he begins to drive himself. Lol.

We are definitely not used to the cold weather we’re experiencing- it was 10 degrees when I took the pups for a business walk this morning. I was on the fence about doing a 5k tonight but this morning helped me decide. I’ll go with a rest day!

It was -8 this morning. H and I were going to go XC skiing but since it’s not going to be above zero until noon, we’ve decided on a rest day also.

Stay safe and warm everyone!

Did my run! 10 degrees at the start, 9 at the end. Good thing is it was quite fun to run under the fireworks and I felt totally warm with all my layers. But in mile 3 I had to stop twice, wheezing. I kept a gaiter up the whole time but I still had that can’t breathe feeling. I think I’ll skip the next race if it’s that cold.

Happy New Year everyone!

Class - that is amazing. Kudos!!! You are so brave. Happy New Year, everyone!!!

Congratulations @Classof2015 ! That is awesome.

Happy New Year to all!

It looked really cold! I saw a short video clip of the start and the fireworks- I’m really impressed you did it! Great job!

Good job! That’s hard when it’s that cold.

Not sure where to post this - I would like to start making my own organic stock this year. I can guy organic chickens just about anywhere but any ideas where I can buy grass fed beef bones to make beef stock other than the local butcher shops - do any of you happen to order your beef online? Also, if you have any good stock or broth recipes you’d like to share?

I rely on the Pacific bone broths and find them quite good. I wonder if one of the paleo websites would have a good recipe and source for the bones. Perhaps @sushiritto has a recommendation?

I rarely cook any more, but when I did, I’d make bone broth regularly in the slow cooker.

I have Sally Fallon’s book Nourishing Traditions around here somewhere and that was probably my starting point for bone broth options. You could try the Westin Price Foundation online.

I have ordered from US Wellness Meats 2-3x. It’s online. No complaints, except $$$.

In our area, it’s so much easier to find organic chickens and to make chicken bone broth v trying to find a steady affordable convenient source of beef bones.

Let us know how it goes!

I did find an online grass fed beef and other organic fed animal butcher shopt that sells the bones specifically for stocks but you are correct, really pricey, at least to me. A 5lb bag of beef neck bones for stock is $27 and says it makes 8 cups of broth = $3.38 per cup??? I think I’ll skip the grass fed and just go to the local butcher shop…too much money for me.

Sharing my LuLuLemon story here - I ordered pants for my husband back in October. A couple of weeks later I hadn’t received them, so I called the company. They did some kind of shipping trace, and claimed they were delivered, but they went ahead and reshipped them. Imagine my surprise when I received the original shipment from them, just this week. So, I called the company again. They said I could return them, and they would give me a GC for the amount I paid. I’m getting over 200 bucks worth of merchandise for “free”Yippee!

Wow, two thumbs up for their customer service!

That’s awesome @1214mom ! Whatcha going to buy?!
