Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

Sounds like my fridge, abasket!

OK, now I’m going to have to get up early enough tomorrow to make Kodiak cakes!

I may have also forgotten to mention that I ALWAYS- ALWAYS - have another dairy product - the Land O Lakes Whipped Heavy Cream in the aerosol bottle. Shoot me but I MUST have whipped cream on occasion!

I’ve been doing lots of cardio - running, walking and spin class. Spin class should start back up this week. But yesterday I did an Amazon Prime video of squats, push-ups, lunges, etc. - I can feel the work today. Need to do this at least once a week in the winter.

We had Kodiak cakes this morning - but I added the eggs and used toasted coconut/almond milk for the liquid. I made a double batch so I’ll have some to microwave during the week - they are delicious! This is on the breakfast menu for this week as well: https://www.runnersworld.com/nutrition-weight-loss/super-charged-avocado-toast

That looks yummy! We have not had much luck with avocados from Costco lately - they never ripened. I should try them again.

I have had Costco avocados that took a LONG time to ripen! When they ripe they are generally really good ones though!

Even though rarely cook, I looked at that recipe @Classof2015 and it looks delicious, healthy and easy. I plan to try it this week

3 mile treadmill run this morning. It felt good to be active again even though I am not 100%. Just bought new running shoes, trying a switch from Asics to Brooks.

A really good article with tips that are applicable not only to distance running:

https://www.runnersworld.com/marathon-training/the-7-habits-of-highly-effective-marathoners/

@FallGirl – let me know how you like it (if you make it). I’m in search of low fat tasty dishes right now (got on the scale recently and thought – I need a new scale haha. This can’t be right).

Let me know how you like the Brooks. I haven’t replaced my Asics yet but really need to.

I like those tips, Bunsen. Lots of good advice.

I am not a runner at all but had been using New Balance as the go-to running shoes, only ecently switched to Brooks, they r more stylish (imho) and have more ankle support. Using them for weekday morning short but high intensity treadmill runs. Great so far.

Thanks for that report, makemesmart! Ankle support is key. I’ve heard also (probably on this thread) that Brooks offers a wider toe box which is more of what women need.

Can’t remember, but have we discussed energy bars here? I like having something in my drawer at work when I’m hungry so I don’t overeat later but whenever I read the labels, they all seem so filled with sugar and/or fat. Any favorite brands?

There’s not a lot that hasn’t been discussed here - the search function is your friend! Favorite bars we’ve discussed- Quest, Kind, Picky.

I like Kind bars and have had a couple RX bars and liked them.

My boys eat Kind bars as they r gluten-free and relatively fewer grams of sugar added (comparing with most other bars). But for myself, I eat variety of roasted tree nuts as snacks.

@Classof2015 - I made the chicken last week and loved it! It was easy (a requirement for me) and delicious. I have already passed the recipe along to D as well a friend from work. Thanks!

The Brooks shoes are lighter than the Asics and have more room in the toe box (which I like) but they still work with my narrow heels. I have 90 days to return them, but it doesn’t look like that will happen.

I like Atkins bars if I have to have something when I can’t eat fresh. High protein, low carb, low sugar. I don’t like the other energy bars.

Which Brooks did you get?

@MomofWildChild Brooks Adrenaline GTS 18. I always get my running shoes fitted at Road Runner and also get the inserts.

@FallGirl – glad you liked it! I will see if my local Jack Rabbit store carries that Brooks version. I’d be interested to try them out on the treadmill.

I’ve been hating my underwear lately.

For hikes, I skip the underwear and wear a shorter pair of compression shorts with a panty liner under my hiking leggings or hiking pants.

What do y’all use for underwear for workouts?
