My friend got regents, while I got alumni scholarship. I’m wondering what the real differences are between the two and did a bit of research. What I found:

Both: social events, free money, priority class choosing, parking help

Regents: 4 years guaranteed housing, prestige factor, some sort of lecture series(?), mentoring program with current UCLA student, need GPA requirement to renew

Alumni: housing help, mentoring program with UCLA alumni, need community service/application to renew

Is that correct? Are there any other differences?

you pointed out most of the differences already. the major difference is really the amount of money you get.

i think the regents scholarship has this too, but for the alumni scholarship, they can potentially kick in more scholarships or grants if you have financial need (i.e. loans, work-study, etc.)

Regents will automatically cover your full tuition if you show any financial need (financial statements that would otherwise say loans or work-study would completely be replaced w/ grants).

Alumni will only give you a few points on your parking application, but Regents are guaranteed parking (parking is granted by a points system , where you get points for certain things like having a job that you commute to). I think there was also a special requirement to get those points for the parking application as well for alumni scholars so its not something you’d automatically get.

Regents also gets the most priority units (I think its somewhere from 12-14 units).
