I’m really hoping he gets into SDSU. We are in the Sacramento area, so not local. What do you guys think? Also, do CSUs and UCs give merit aid? Or is that mainly given by private universities only? This is my first time going through all this. Thanks for any info.
Thank you all for the wealth of information! Thought I’d also share, in case it helps anyone. We are in Northern California.

USF is the most expensive, even with the merit aid. Planning on visiting Univ of Portland and Seattle Univ during spring break. Would love any of the SoCal schools too! Any thoughts on the schools that she got accepted to? Thanks for any info!
Yes, it’s 79k minus 12K merit for my daughter. I compared notes with my SIL whose daughter applied and was accepted to TCU 3 years ago. it was $66,640 in tuition back then, before merit. She is a business major. She goes to Baylor now
UC’s and CSU’s will give some merit but the majority of financial aid is need based.
Merit aid is highly competitive and only the top applicants are in the running. Regents and Chancellor scholarships are awarded automatically by the UC’s.
All CSU’s and UC’s do offer scholarships that you can apply as a continuing student to help offset costs. I would check the FA office website for details.
Sometimes, and towards the May 1st date a school might increase merit if they see they need to do it to secure the students they want. Emphasis on sometime and might. If you think your student will attend if merit changes from 24K to 29K you can always ask. Of course no guarantee but “small” increases in merit are not unheard of. I would only ask though if my kid for sure would attend. The merit landscape had changed a lot the last few years. Changed as getting harder to get.

She also received the Chancellor’s Award, which you get if you graduate from a Catholic or Jesuit high school. It’s a $5,000 annual award, for up to 4 years. Even with it, it is STILL the most expensive option!
Can anyone share anything about PLNU’s Direct Entry Nursing Program? They recently changed to Direct Entry. Does anyone have any experiences or insight they can share? Thank you.
Hi, my daughter got a very generous offer from Duquesne (direct admit BSN). Does anyone have any experience with it? Or visited and talked to the nursing program? Thanks!
