As of yesterday evening, my son hadn’t heard back yet. He has yet to check today.
Hello, I would like some feedback on UC Irvine’s DA Nursing Science program. Does anyone have any positives/negatives about this program? We are excited for D24 for securing a spot.
https://nursing.uci.edu/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/BS-Student-Handbook-23-24_Final.pdf page 10 lists the UCI nursing progression requirements:
- 2.0 GPA.
- Minimum of C (not C-) grade in major courses and prerequisites.
- 2.75 GPA in upper division nursing courses.
Hi…just curious if anyone has any information/feedback on the TCU or University of Tennessee nursing programs…(?)
Thanks
For TCU, https://harriscollege.tcu.edu/nursing/wp-content/uploads/sites/6/2021/08/2021-22-Nursing-Student-Handbook.pdf says that a 2.5 GPA and C (not C-) grades in major courses are required. The second C- or lower grade in a major course results in dismissal from the major.
For UTK, UG Program Handbooks - Grading Policy says that C (not C-) grades in major courses are required, with dismissal upon the second C- or lower grade in a major course.

Austin Peay State University in Tennessee has guaranteed pathways if that is what you are looking for. You can read about it here;
Any opinions from your first (or close) hand experience between student enrolling at a Nursing Program affiliated with a teaching hospital (Penn State Hershey?) vs. TCU? I see TCU Harris Nursing is affiliated with Harris Hospital, both named after the donor. Just not sure if the relationship between the Harris institutions are technically like a research hospital, if you know what I mean. Any advice on one setting being more advantageous than the other for learning and experience development? Thank you!
Thank you very much…my daughter has been accepted to TCU, University Tennessee, University of Pittsburgh, Miami Oh direct entry programs and several non direct entry…Auburn, Florida State…waiting to hear from Villanova and U Miami…Pitt has an amazing program but we are from Pennsylvania and she wants go away for college…TCU seems to check all the boxes just a little far away…
We visited Creighton last month for accepted students day. We were able to tour the new nursing building and it is very impressive! Their SIM labs have AI mannequins. They have about 130 nursing students in a cohort. The sense of community at Creighton was very strong and they have lots of resources to make sure your student succeeds, such as different types of free tutoring and advisors in all the freshman dorms to help with study habits, test anxiety and time management. The school from one end to the other is less than a 15 minute walk. My DD wants to visit a bigger DE school just to compare sizes and see which one is a better fit. Creighton is still in the running. Coming from San Diego, the flights weren’t too bad but there weren’t any direct. Although we went in Feb, in the “dead of winter,”the temps were in the 50s and some kids were wearing shorts!
Good luck with your voices. Creighton is worth a visit.
My daughter is a junior nursing student at PLNU. When she started it was practically direct-admit (roughly a 1+3) -she has had an excellent experience there. Her clinicals have been incredible and the hospital nurses have frequently commented that PLNU nurses are far more prepared than the other local students. It’s a very reputable program, with the most beautiful campus! If you have any more questions, let me know!
Thanks for the info. We’re planning to fly out next month for admitted students day too. DD will attend BlueJay social on Sunday night. Was the tour of the nursing building in the morning? We’re planning to leave Omaha at noon on Monday.

Great options! What are your top choices right now?
Pitt, Ohio State, and UAB, and if I get in UNC, then UNC will be the one I will probably choose.
Great options - thanks for sharing both admissions and waitlist/denials. Would you mind also sharing your stats? Or maybe you already posted them further up in this thread… I will check! Also, I’m sure you already know this, but UNC does not appear to be direct entry. Looks like you apply sophomore year. Website says there are 300-400 traditional BSN applications for 104 seats each year. And it is a 5 semester program so a summer semester is required between junior and senior year. Good luck as you wait for your final decisions…
Edited to add – found your post with stats – very impressive! Thanks again for sharing
Congratulations on the acceptances. I’m interested in why UNC would be your #1. We are in-state and my daughter got into UNC but rejected it due to the fact that it is so difficult to get into the upper level nursing program. Getting accepted to Chapel Hill would certainly be an honor but if nursing is your goal, it may not be the best choice. If you are still unsure if nursing is what you want to do, then Chapel Hill would definitely be a good option since you don’t declare your major until sophomore year.
Mine got an email asking them if they wanted to change major by 3/11. On 3/12 they got another email asking if they were sure they didn’t want to change major; responded saying thank you for opportunity but are only interested in nursing. Thought the denial would come next day but still nothing…anyone else get those emails?
Sending you positive vibes for an admit in nursing. We have not heard anything from SDSU, anticipating denial at this point.
