How often do perspective students do this? Is it reccomended just to see if they would accept you?
Most admissions officers won’t do this. They can give you average standarized test scores and percentile ranges, but most won’t be like outright “you have a good/poor chance of getting in” (at least not the particularly selective schools anyway) Plus many of them take into consideration the rest of the class when making their decision so it’s not like they can give you an outright answer anyway. When you submit your application, they can give you much more context than you could with a typical “chances” thread
Your best information on this comes from Naviance which your high school may have access to. Otherwise, you have to rely on the Common Data Set for the college (Google it. Section C) and guesstimate how you fit into that profile.
