Lol. Snail mail is just the regular USPS mail that comes in your mail box. We call it “snail” mail because it simply takes too long in comparison to e-mail, text, etc.

Question: will a conference be held for the finalists or when a student becomes an actual scholar?

haha, i get it now. so word on the streets says that the gates mill will pay for graduate school. anyone else heard that? and someone pleaaaaaasee let me know how you guys faxed your student aid report (or let me know how many pages yours is).

and last question-- did anyone get their finalist letter with the gpa forn yet?

@bishop 5— i dont think there will be a conference, and according to last year, the conference was for SCHOLARS and it was around september. so if you become a scholar then there will be a conference for us.

Gates cover graduate school funding for continuing Gates Millennium Scholars in the areas of computer science, education, engineering, library science, mathematics, public health or science.

charrissa, I’m so happy things worked out for you!

Congratulations and best wishes to all you finalists!

whay is the 0 out of 5 thing all about do you get the email first and then the recording change
are they still sending out emails

just called gates the emails are still being sent out until the end of the month

jputmon, if you called and your status says, still waiting on 0-5 things then it means your a finalist. just in case if you didnt kknow, i called to, they seem pretty friendly

what if it dont say 0 out of 5

Im a finalist as well!!
Congratulations to the other finalists!
Good luck for the rest!

Alejita when did you find out

does anyone know what it takes for a FINALIST to be rejected as a SCHOLAR? besides the reasons of being ineligible.)) also does anyone know of anyone that was rejected as a scholarship winner? Ive heard that finalist most likely win, but i just want clarification.

Evrybody whatsup with this whole 0-5 thing sure if you call the hotline and says that you have 0-5 things not received you are a finalists. However, the ones who hav not received a statement saying that you hav something missing. just hold out you will know just keep calling the hotline… I don’t think all of the finalists have been notified yet. BE PATIENT… I am nervous to!!!

does gates cover medical school?

I read in one of the previous year’s threads that GMSP does not cover medical or law school.

yea my brother was a finalist last year and didnt get the scholarship :confused:
and well im still waiting for my email/letter of finalist

@Mecksican do you know what your brother’s gpa and stuff were? I wonder why he was rejected. I’ve heard that finalists are usually get the scholarship unless their income was above the limit for pell grant?

@tngozz
his gpa was like a 95 or 96 out of 100
and yea we qualify for the pell grant.
it might have been that he wasnt involved much in extracurricular activities or so

Can you get the recording before you get the email

@mecksican
That might have been it.
Also, what school did he say he was going to?
I read somewhere on here that they tend to give it more so to students want go to more expensive schools that don’t give great aid (like NYU) and would therefore be less able to afford it than a student who wants to go a cheaper school. For example, if there are two finalists with identical stats and one wanted to go to NYU and the other to like UNC Chapel Hill (which is significantly cheaper), they are more inclined to give the scholarship to the student who wants to go to NYU. I’m not 100% certain about this, I’m just relaying what I read.
