<p>Alright, so I’m not a 100% sure, but if you have 5000 gates will cover it. If the school says some complicated math like “Any scholarship over 7000 will reduce your financial award by half of that which exceeds the 7000” (yes, I have a school saying that) then whatever is refigured out that will be covered by Gates also. So if at first it’s 5000 and then you get the Gates and they’re like “Nah, now it’s 100000” then Gates is like “Dude, don’t care, here’s the 100000 also”. Like they cover it all from what I keep hearing. </p>
<p>Including work study, I heard some mom on here say that her child gets a check for the work study without actually working because of Gates. But that’s the only excess money you’d get. They don’t actually allow excess money anywhere that I hear of.</p>
<p>OMG. Am I the only one thats sincerely freaking out about this Gates Scholarship thingyy?? (Obviously not) Everyone feels so calm and nonchalant. Meanwhile I’m here noticing that I have only about 16 or so days until I know if I’m a scholar or not. AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! Ok, I’m done. I had to get that off my chest.</p>

<p>im freaking out too! So im a Finalist ahhhh the wait is killing me but great news i called the info line they received all my papers and it clearly stated we have send a letter with our final decision on APRI 1ST…today ahhh i should be getting it soon…

<p>Last year, people found out about finalist status on March 9th, 2009.
This year, we found out March 8th, 2010.
Last year, the overnight packets were received on the 16th for accepted Gates scholars.
So this year, I wager that the overnight packets will be received on the 15th.</p>
<p>Okay so I have a question for the more experienced people who have known about Gates for a longer time. Do you have to be a current full time student to be a Gates Scholar. Our school tells us we have to have 5 classes to be a full time student, while some of the Gates Finalists only have 4 classes. So I was wondering does it make a difference to the Gates people on whether or not the scholars are full time students or not while in high school. Thanks you guys for any input you have.</p>
<p>Well it depends on how they decide to send them out…I know twins who are Gates Scholars and one received their notification for the other…It was all good in the end but that day was torture for one of them because she thought she didn’t get it</p>
