African American Male in Oklahoma City got the rejection letter today…Good luck to the rest of you!

Did the packets arrive by regular mail? Did anyone in the South (Alabama) receive his/her notification?

I AM A GATES MILLINIEUM SCHOLAR!!! African American from Alabama…im sooooo happy!!! got my packet in the mail…

Are the packets arrving in regular USPS mail? Because I haven’t gotten anything. :frowning: (Hispanic from Southern California)

I’m starting to freak out, I’m from San Antonio, Texas and I haven’t recieved anything yet. Tomorrow will be the day hopefully. :(

It’s hard for me to focus. I’ve worked so hard for this scholarship and without this scholarship I’ll probably end up in community college if I’m lucky. :(

@lovetruth

Yeah, I can’t focus either. All I’m hearing is that people are getting their packets and it worries me because this scholarship takes off my worries from paying medical school. (I don’t even have money to pay for university, loans is my 2nd option.) So, it looks like we both need it, but I think you need it more since it looks like community college is your 2nd option. Ahrrgh! I hate waiting! Why don’t they just get it over with it?!

You do know that Gates does NOT pay for medical school, don’t you?

i didn’t get it. I’m extremely mad, and I feel bad because they led me on. My EFC is 0, I’m going to one of the most expensive universities, and now I have to figure out how I’m supposed to pay for personal expenses and healthcare.

Congrats though, to everyone else :)

I got into pretty good school but it’s the loans I can’t pay off for the rest of my life, My parents had pretty much said I’m on my own. : (

Sorry to hear that. I am sure you’ll do fine without the scholarship.

Where are you located and which university will you be attending?

I’m from Miami, and I’ll be attending the University of Chicago come Fall… :D, I’ll feel better by the way, thank you!

Glad you are!

I am from New York and is still waiting for a response.
When you wrote that you will be attending an expensive university, I thought for a second, NYU. NYU is known for its horrendous financial aid packages.

Doesn’t it say that GMS will pay for graduate studies as long as it concerns computer science, education, engineering, library science, mathematics, public health or science?

“Graduate school funding for continuing Gates Millennium Scholars in the areas of computer science, education, engineering, library science, mathematics, public health or science;”
