I do not want to sound ignorant, but why do so many private schools stress the importance of ethnic diversity? I like to look past a person’s ethnicity and look at ECs for diversity.

It’s almost like a pride point for a school to say that it has a diverse student body. They can claim their reasons like oh, it enhances students’ views and one can learn from others of diverse backgrounds, etc. but these are mostly bs b/c those of the same ethnicity tend to hang out with their own kind. So essentially, it’s a pride point.

not to mention, people have mostly assimilated to American culture anyways, so it doesn’t mean much

And what is American culture?

Colleges like diversity because they have to be politically correct.

It’s just cool to be surrounded by people who look different from you and might have different beliefs and ways of life. I’m from a small town in Alabama. The lack of diversity is depressing. If you’re a minority, have fun trying to fit in (hahaha!). I’m glad colleges look to build a diverse class!

there is like only 50 people (out of 2.5k) in my school that arent white

:D
