I mean do they fall asleep easier/get a better night’s sleep? Since they have darker skin pigments their eyelids probably let less light in at night, kind of like white shades VS black shades. I mean I have very fair skin and I find I CANNOT sleep with the lights on. I wonder if black people have this problem. Discuss.

Um I’m black, I get pretty good sleep, but I don’t know so much about the whole dark thing, 'cause I’m the light-skinned type. Anyway, I don’t care if the lights are on though, I would still be able to fall asleep.

Lol. I don’t know but I think you may be on to something here. I’ve never thought about that before, black people (at least the very dark) come with natural sunglasses. As for me however, I can tell that the light is on (I’m white) and it kills me so yeah.

Lol. How about you scientifically research this topic and submit the results to Intel? This definitely has top 40 finalist potential lol…

I’m black and I have terrible sleep patterns. But then again, I don’t know if I fit this research anyway.

I’m black and I sleep fine, but only if the lights are out.

Well great job posting useless info Trak!

No but seriously, great job.

:) 10char.

Okay I thought OP was crazy for starting this thread but it’s an interesting point…

i’m not black but i have the same problem as u Penn… i can’t sleep with the lights on and some days i can only sleep on the sofa without a pillow…lol

I’ve become strictly nocturnal is recent years. It’s just that I get so much done…

I don’t think I answered your question.

the next intel AND siemens winner right here.
probably a publication in nature AND science if your lucky.

I think this topic is ridiculous. Doesn’t melanin absorb sunlight? Besides, we’re talking about artificial light from like incandescent light bulbs. I don’t think they have the same effect as sunlight. Anyways, I’m half black and my sleep patterns are dependent on stress level, fatigue, and overall comfort. It’s not dependent on light.

I’m half black but I have wacky sleep patterns and am tired all the time, so I’m probably not a good subject either. Light does bother me when I sleep, though. When I close my eyes and there’s light present I see red.

Eyelids are so thin it probably doesn’t matter.

Haha no racist… is that like no homo?

I guess that makes sense. So wearing a blindfold should truly help then.

i dont think it matters, or it might depend on peoples individual tolerance

im asian, with light skin, and i can sleep in broad daylight, but i wake easily (ie sound or movement)

I was really offended by this before I saw the “(no racist)” tag. Thanks for clarifying Penn.

I’m half black so only sleep better half the time
