I’m an athlete transferring schools and I have spoken to the coaches at all 3 colleges and I don’t really know how to ask without being rude but I was wondering if anyone knew if these schools give recruit spots to athlete I got a 4.0 in my first semester at a t-50 school also
Which sport now - if i recall there was hoops and maybe track
Track for this one I was very good at both in high school but better at track but I like hoops more but hoops isn’t getting the looks I want
Are you an athlete at your current school?
What happened in your recruiting before? It seems like you were trying to get recruited - what happened
I think @mwfan works with athletes.
Yes all those schools recruit. What were you talking with the coaches about if you weren’t talking about recruiting/being part of their team? You will know if they are interested in you. Did any of them say what the next steps were?
I’m not an athlete at my school I’m in the transfer portal and I’ve got a lot of d3 offers and I’ve taken a couple visits but I’d like to stay d1 and these are the 3 schools I like the most and I just wanted to see if they’d give me admissions help especially because I’m a strong student
They asked for my grades and stuff like that I just never expressly asked if they could get me in. It was all recruiting stuff I just didn’t know how much they could help
And all of them said start the application were the next steps but I’m assuming they’re talking to admissions since they asked for my stats
Asking for grades is a good step. All you can do is ask questions, starting with I am interested in X school and your program, how can I become part of the team. Or something like that. Are your event times competitive for these teams? Meanng would you be scoring points in events at meets?
Please make sure that when you are emailing and/or texting with the coaches that you are using good grammar, full sentences, and complete thoughts. I understand why you might not do that here, but you should do so when communicating with coaches. Good luck.
@politeperson knows a lot about track and field recruiting.
I’d be the best on the team at all 3 schools and a point scorer at conference and do you think I should ask like what are they asking for my grades for or just go with the flow
You can ask if the coach is submitting the grades to admissions for an academic pre-read, and if so, assuming that is positive, what would be the next steps and timing?
Just based off of the 4.0 first semester it can’t really be bad right
Just curious -if OP recently tried to get recruited at these schools and didn’t, what would change now?
Not questioning you - but questioning you - like I want to learn…
I’m not sure what you mean? The coaches might have room for you, they might not. They might offer admissions help, they might not. Good grades help to be sure.
Had you talked with these coaches last year? What were your HS stats? Will you be applying for financial aid? Will you be applying to these schools whether or not the coach recruits you?
I got injured senior year and had to build back essentially
No financial aid and I got a 34 act with a 3.73 uw gpa in hs and I’ll apply regardless of recruitment
I didn’t talk with them last year
Why did you choose the school you chose? Why didn’t you apply to these last year?
Let’s say you don’t get recruited - are you looking to transfer regardless?
Parents decision and I’m leaving anyway my parents are on board
Just don’t forget - it’s not easy to transfer - not just academically but also socially.
No doubt @Mwfan1921 will have great guidance for you.
Good luck.
