Hi, I am a junior high student and this is my last year in middle school. So far my teachers have been telling us that colleges consider you based on your grades starting from 8th grade, or your 8th grade semester. I would just like to know if this is true, because I was also told that they actually start checking your in high school, 9th - 12th. I just want to know when they actually start checking your grades or if it depends on where I live, or what classes I take? I do know that all my grades go onto a transcript but I wanna know what grade do colleges start looking at… 8th or high school 9th - 12th?
The Florida public universities will take into account some of your classes in the 8th grade, if they count toward high school graduation (in Florida).
From UF"s website:
These classes would count toward your overall “GPA” for admissions purposes.
that GPA in 7th and 8th only counts for a required HS level course like language.
We’re in the same boat, son took Algebra I and Physical Science in 8th grade. It was the first year those classes were offered at the middle school level. Let’s just say that the courses weren’t taught as well as the actual high school classes, but the students still had to take the same exams. Son ended up with B’s. Now he’s going to be a senior in high school and will never be able to get above a 3.9 GPA. Even though he’s had straight A’s all through high school. According to his guidance counselor, there’s nothing we can do about that.
