I’m a freshman in high school. I’m in a class named Environmental Science for juniors and seniors and technically I’m not supposed to take the class because you need two Core 40 science classes before it. I was approved to take it, though, and I’m like the youngest to ever take it or something. Will colleges see this?
Although students will labor over an application for hours and days, the reality is that an AO will spend about 12-15 minutes tops reading each. So, no, they will not be running out to read the course catalog when they know what an Environmental Science class is. While it’s great that you challenged yourself, this is not the sort of thing that will tilt an application. Plenty of freshman and sophomores take AP Calc BC, for instance. So while rare, it is not unique by any stretch of the imagination.
^^^Totally agree.
Your GC may mention it in the rec submitted with your application, though, so it may have a way of coming out.
They won’t see the course description and compare it to your qualifications before taking the course and see that you were specially admitted. However, you can certainly mention this in an application essay if it seems relevant later.
In the meantime, you can use this achievement to help you land an environmental science internship or research project or other significant opportunity that will look good on your college application later.
