Do I have to take remedial classes at a florida university?

So I was reading about the new law that was passed recently saying that it is no longer “required” for students to take remedial classes at a florida college, and that they can opt out of them. However, the article I was reading mentioned community colleges, so I was wondering if this law applied to all colleges/universities in florida?

Thanks for the help!

“Remedial” classes (also known as developmental or prep courses) at Florida’s CC’s where only required at CC’s and where only based on how well you did on the state’s college placement exam. These classes did not earn you credit toward your degree. These remedial classes where not offered at most of the Universities.

As long as you have a Florida’s standard diploma can opt out of the classes, college or university.

At the University level, you do have to take placement test (math and chemistry are two examples), but if you’ve taken AP/IB/AICE classes, you may be able to “place out” of the placement test (though they still recommend you take the test). If don’t do well on the placement test (or place out), then you’ll need to take a more basic classes, before taking on the harder course. For example, if you don’t do well on the math test, they may require that you take college algerbra, before you could take a calculas class. However, this class would also earn you college credit, unlike the remedial classes.
