This is the first time I’ve ever interviewed during the summer. I just went out and bought this dress. I actually think it looks better on and more stylish in person than in the picture. I hits right in the middle of my knees. I plan on wearing nude pumps and my legs are fine.
I’d prefer not to wear hose, as I think they are aging and it looks like the HR person I need to get thru first is about 40, so younger. I definitely do not want to appear any older than I have to. I think I’ll be fine, but just curious as to what you all have to say.
How dressy is the workplace? I would err on the side of caution if that was a bigger law firm or an accounting firm. In that case, I would splurge on Wolford Naked 8 or something similar.
Can you let an inch or so out so the dress is below mid-knee when you sit down? I would not wear anything shorter than that to a job interview.
Cute dress - to me it doesn’t look like the kind of dress that calls for pantyhose. I get that they’re “out”, but in the winter I will wear them occasionally, but super sheer and nude.
I guess the question is…do folks in this workplace wear hose? Where I live…no one does, not even lawyers in swanky firms. They don’t wear flip flops so really…who would know??
You need panty hose and closed toed shoes end of story. No one wants to see either your toes or your legs despite the fact that you think they look fine.
I just came from a large meeting with many professional women and it’s warm today so many skirts and dresses. Not a pair of pantyhose in sight. I say no - unless it somehow makes you more comfortable.
I truly never see women wearing hose at work. Tights in the winter but not hose.
Nice dress @conmama .
If you decide to wear hose make sure they are very sheer and natural looking. I’ve had good luck with Donna Karen’s
“The Nudes”.
Good luck with the interview!
I know nothing about office fashion etiquette (I was a forester and got judged if I wore a dress when I was in the office - too girly), but here’s some advice I found online.
An article from Huffpost also concurred with the link above.
“Hosiery may or may not be optional. Many companies have relaxed their view on panty hose, especially in extremely hot weather. A job interview, however, is not the time to take any chances. If you know someone currently employed with the company, ask them about their dress policy. You may also make an effort to drive by the company during a time when employees are entering or exiting the building. If the women are wearing conservative suits and hosiery, it would be in your best interest to do the same. As a side note, panty hose are much more comfortable and fashionable than in years past. Select a sheer or nude color that is close to your own skin tone.”
I thought that this article was interesting in discussing appropriate attire in different fields, law, finance, arts, tech, retail fashion (jeans!?), etc.
People are expected to dress up a couple of notches for an interview, so if you wear a jacket with that dress, you can safely wear a pair of Wolfords. Which I’d rather wear than have a bad case of leg goosebumps during an interview.
Great interview dress! I wouldn’t wear hose. I agree with the closed-toe pumps - that looks more professional than a dressy sandal. But hose are just hot and uncomfortable. I haven’t seen a dress code that required them in over 20 years.
I’m also in the camp of tights in the winter, bare legs in the summer.
