Okay, so school started for me about 2 weeks ago. My mom is still convinced that I need a rolling backpack because of my load I have to carry every week. Here’s some of what I have to carry:
2 Latin books
5 one subject notebooks
An Atlas for geography
A Bible
2 sketch books for drawing maps
A filer
Not kidding. The reason why I don’t want to get one is 'cause I’ll look like an idiot and a loser and I’ll accidentally trip people and then their stuff will snag on my bag while they’re down. The only other person who uses one is…really weird. So what do you guys think? Should I just pay $70 for a new one or use the pack I have?
I am going to be honest with you. When I was in high school there was exactly one person with a rolling backpack and all of the guys made fun of him.
Are you really going to need all that stuff with you every single day? I bet most classes will only ask you to bring the text books, atlases, and sketch books every now and then.
Do you have lockers? Can you just go back to your locker between classes?
If you really need to carry all of those each day while not suffering the social consequences of using a rolling backpack, you can carry some of your books yourself while switching classes. I have a friend who had a similar problem last year who just used a tote bag to carry some of her books while she used a backpack, you can try doing that. It’s not too common but it’s better than a rolling backpack. Just make sure you get one that’s durable enough to carry heavy books.
Well, here’s the thing. It’s not a public school. It’s actually a home school co-op. I have to carry it once a day and there’s not really a commute except stairs. There are no lockers because it takes place in a church. And it’s like…one day a week. And yet my mom thinks I should get a roller bag because it weighs around 20lbs.
@WolfOfSpades If I were you then I’d definitely use a tote bag instead since it’s less expensive than a rolling backpack and you won’t have to worry about climbing stairs. I don’t really see the point in buying a rolling backpack if you’re just going to use it for one day a week.
