Do local honors courses count at these colleges?

I attend a magnet school, where we have mandatory science classes we have to take and they are ridiculously rigorous. However, I found out that these are only local honors for the magnet school. Would colleges see this and give them the extra points and would this ruin my GPA? On my report card they say “LH”.

If school offers AP in those subjects then no they won’t look as good but if these are the highest level then honors reflects well than regular classes.

In the state of Florida, we have “State of Florida” designated honor classes. However, a school can request that a class be designated as “honors”. It has to go through an approval process, but once it’s approved, it’s a “Local Honors” class and is treated like any other honors class in the state.

In other words, don’t worry so much about the “local” designation.

If your school only offers “local honors” classes, then that’s the most rigorous classes it offers. Otherwise, AP, IB and AICE classes (and DE) tend to be viewed as more rigorous.

@Gator88NE My school does offer honors and AP courses and I do take the available ones at my school. However there are no AP versions of my magnet classes that are labeled local honors. Plus the names are pretty ambiguous to the class (Often called Research LH, Exp. Science LH )

Yes, they are not “standard” state of Florida honor classes. Your school district, however, feels they are just as rigorous, and has gone through the process of having them classified as “honors”. These would be classes unique to your district.

They will be treated as honor classes in admissions, and your GC is likely going to say that you’re taking the most rigorous curriculum available at your school (which sounds like a combination of AP, honors and Local honors classes).
