Do scholarship winners get any perks?

I know at some schools, like Emory, scholarship winners get a lot of perks such as housing priority, course selection priority, and scholar activities.

Does Rice offer any perks for scholarship winners?

Thanks!

lots of money…and more required credits

Those things aren’t really as applicable at Rice as they would be at a big school. You don’t need prority registration since there are only 2800 students, and everybody shops around dropping in and out of classes the first few weeks, and you can ask the prof to let you in if there is technically no room. (My daughter hasn’t been shut out of any classes she wanted, and there are always other good classes to take.) Housing priority? You are assigned a college, and it becomes your home and your community. You don’t get to pick which college and/or the room type, at least not as a freshman. Scholar activities… well, my daughter attended a luncheon or dinner to thank scholarship donors once, but there are tons of scholarly things - seminars, panels, colloquiums, but they are open to all. Practically everyone who attends Rice is worthy of scholarships, so they don’t need to make a big deal about the actual scholarship winners.

anxiousmom, thanks! That helped a lot. :)
