Do you even watch network TV anymore?

I guess a lot of people do, but not much in our house. We get Direct TV, the land of a million channels. But we are getting too spoiled to watch commercials.

Increasingly, what we do is find a whole TV series and then watch all the episodes from beginning to cancellation. Maybe one or two shows a day until we run out. We just finished MI-5, a BBC television show. I think those were available free through our Amazon Prime account over the tv internet. We also have a lot of our fave movies and series on DVD.

For football and basketball, but other than that hardly ever. I get DIRECTTV as well and especially enjoy the new HBO GO app on my IPAD. Lets me watch all their content at no additional expense beyond my DIRECT TV subscription.

I watch CBS Sunday Morning, 60 Minutes, and a few pro football games, and that’s about it. The rest is either PBS or maybe some old movies on cable.

We watch the local and national evening news, a few sports games, Glee, and that’s about it.

Ironically, I watch syndicated re-runs of network shows when they finally make their way to the cable channels. That’s how I discovered Law & Order, House MD, and NCIS. I wish Lost would get there. I hear it was good.

Our local news, 30 Rock, and Modern Family. Otherwise, cable channels.

Brian Williams. I like gazing at him. Sometimes the local news.

We can’t get over the air tv (thank you gov’t) and have Directv. My H and D watch a lot of sports and the History Channel. It kills me to pay $75/month for tv. How much do the rest of you pay? Does it bother you? When H dies, a big antenna is going up and Directv is going away.

If I am home I watch NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams. It is my one news staple but at school I catch clips ever so often.

As for network television I watch Castle, Parks and Recreation, 30 Rock, How I Met Your Mother, New Girl, Modern Family, Up All Night, Community, Grey’s Anatomy (oh hey guilty pleasure show), Fringe, and The Good Wife. I watch all of these through downloads and Hulu since I don’t have a TV. A lot of people say that there isn’t good quality on network - they are wrong.

For pay-services I am a huge fan of Showtime’s Homeland and Shameless and really excited for Aaron Sorkin’s new show Newsroom that will be on HBO.

Yeah, he’s not hard to look at. But, I just like his sense of humor. And he actually does a decent job when he’s “acting” in a cameo of himself.

We pay $128/month but thats our cable + internet. We have a basic subscription. No premium channels.

My dad is convinced that all cable channels should be sold a la carte. None of this bundling crap, as he calls it. He deeply resents having to click past HGTV (among others) when he’s looking for his shows.

Actually, there’s a LOT of good programming on networks these days, especially comedies: Modern Family, Parks and Rec, Community…

I get 37 channels in the air via a $10 antenna, that is all I need from programming, FREE. I get all the movies I can handle from a Netflex subscription. Why should I pay $100’s to get the cable? Internet via cable is $30/mo, lower via DSL @15/mo, but I opt to get the faster cable service.

Obviously, you shouldn’t. You’re perfectly happy with broadcast, so keep it. No one’s trying to make you switch. We’re just talking about our viewing habits. That’s all. :)

Comedies have struggled on network TV since shows like Friends, Seinfeld, and Fraiser went off the air. Documentary style has sort of broken into television and it has been beautiful (The Office, Parks and Rec, Modern Family). A recent awards ceremony just released noms and included Glee in their race for Outstanding performance by an ensemble in a comedy series and it is sad day that Parks and Rec is not included. /angry rant

DB: I think we have too many sports channels and I try to explain to my dad that we never watch them (baseball and hockey) but they are part of the deal thing. I just don’t see why they needed to be listed when no one in our family watches them.

I no longer watch live TV period. I DVR everything, even football, and use the 30 sec skip button to kill the commercials.

The only network TV I watch are sports events and I’m DVR’ing Biggest Loser for something to have on in the background while cooking or whatever. I started out recording Survivor, but once I fell eight weeks behind, I figured “who’s kidding who” and deleted the episodes. I will generally DVR American Idol, but I scream through each episode with the skip button for any performances that seem interesting. I give bad or boring songs the hook after about 15 seconds. I never watch network news programming.

I tend to get my TV/radio news from Fox News and PBS/NPR. That way, I get the spin from the right and the spin from the left.

I watch local news as well as Brian Williams NBC Nightly News, a bit of the Today Show and when I can, CBS Sunday Morning and Sixty Minutes, live from the Met and the NY Philharmonic on PBS. I do watch a few shows The Good Wife, Blue Bloods and my guilty pleasures, Gray’s Anatomy, Top Chef and Project Runway. We have Verizon FIOS but no premium channels. I was on a business trip a month ago and caught about 20 minutes of HBO Boardwalk Empire…maybe it was just that episode but it was extremely violent.

We watch Castle on Hulu and Dr. Who on DVDs. (We’re several seasons behind.) I’ve never watched TV news - get the local daily and The New York Times on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. No cable or satellite. I do tend to have NPR droning the background most of the day, sometimes I even listen to it!

We only have an antenna so we only get a handful of channels. We simply have no interest in watching network TV. Mostly we watch DVDs. If we want to watch a series, we get it from the library and watch from beginning to end much like what skyhook described.

My son would love it if he could watch his favorite hockey team on our TV, but for now, we are opting to forgo cable TV. If it was in our home, we’d watch more TV than is good for us. So, for now, he has to go up the street to his grandparents house to watch hockey games. My parents don’t mind one bit. :-)

What do I watch on network tv? Jeopardy. I almost never miss it. Easier to do now that the kids are out of the house and I’m not tied to their schedule. I’ve been watching Jeopardy since Art Fleming was the host. No, I’m not THAT old.

Except for Amazing Race, American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance, I watch everything else on cable/satellite. CNN or Fox News or the internet for news.

We used to watch a lot of PBS, but that is when the kids were little. I did like Inspector Morse on Mystery, but haven’t watched that in a long time.

crizello—Inspector Morse died (in the show) and now his sergeant, Lewis, has a series of his own: Inspector Lewis. We love it.

We TiVo everything, even network television. I watch Suburgatory, HIMYM, Two Broke Girls, Castle, NCIS and Pime Suspect. We also watch TiVo NASCAR to rush through the races. With NFL RedZone, we don’t watch most games live either.
