Do You Have A Hard Time Letting Go...

My oldest is now looking for jobs in Another City. My heart aches, and I find both DH and I are pushing those feelings aside as much as we can. I guess I know we will have to go through the grieving process, I just don’t want that to override the time we may have left with him before he leaves. It’s making me teary just thinking about it, so i have to stop writing now.

@TiggerDad Thank you for sharing that poem; it could have been written for me!

@conmama- hugs. My oldest moved to the west coast last summer and I’m still sad about the distance. The school moves were temporary but this job move is likely more permanent. He’s happy though, so I am, too.

I’ve been thinking about this lately as my one who lives close will move to the opposite coast in a couple of months. And, while she (all my kids) are the center of my life (I do have an active, happy and full life but I still think about them all the time), I have definitely moved to her periphery. Great way to put it, @conmama. We are close and she shares quite a bit when we’re together but then she’ll go up to a week without any contact. That’s hard but I don’t say anything and don’t text too often.

The other two are already on the other coast. One I’m in touch with often. The other I used to be and then she graduated college and moved to a new city. Has a long distance significant other and I think as a ‘new adult’ (22) she reaches out so much less than when she was in college. She used to call several times a week as she walked to class. Now it’s once a week or less. I’m trying to give her her space but it’s hard.

This thread and my post are making me a little blue.

Mine has a way of “fouling” the nest as she prepares to leave so it makes the transition easier lol! I know it’s the anxiety of traveling back and being out of schedule but still…

D flew to my moms this past weekend and we had a great visit. But between my mother and my D, I was ready to get back home.

It will be very rare for us to see our middle kid, the one studying in Beirut. He’s talking about going to Germany for grad school (not sure that’s a viable option, but whatever). He really has no desire to live in the US again. Hoping he changes his mind at some point. Once he got past his horrid teenager phase, he’s turned out to be a wonderful human being.

He IS good about staying in close contact with us, on WhatsApp, so at least we have that.

Count me in as one who lures with “Wanna meet me —insert fun place—“

Blessed Day! I woke to the first contact from my S, since he left last week: “mom, the door lock on my room is broken, could you let maintenance know?” I knew he misses us, I could just tell… !

Graduation is two weeks from Saturday. Our daughter is literally one last lab project and one more exam away from being finished her undergraduate program. She is off to a tippy top PhD program in her field. We are so proud and so excited about what’s coming next. Yet, I do keep getting these fleeting moments of realization that now her childhood really really really really is over.
