The food is usually pretty bad, but that’s subjective. Everything is way too organized. There’s no mess. Friendships, and life in general, are a little artificial. Marijuana is much more expensive and so is tuition. And the east coast weather is really bloody cold.

Why do you want to go? What makes you think you will like it?

The opportunities! :)

I just want to do a BS an Computer Science which is not covered in any well known colleges, and not BTech like in the IITs. While I’m exploring, might as well go big!

Plus, as codeguy said, the opportunities are much better(mainly due to the perks attached), and most of the people I’m inspired by have studied there.

To people who are underestimating opportunities provided to IIT’ians have a look here

Moreover what I feel is that if a person is good in a particular field then JEE is more difficult for him than other colleges

@jmlover Yes, I know all about that, as my sister’s friend has directly been Invited to Google from IIT-Kgp with >$100,000 Base salary after BTech, so that speaks a volume…

I’ve almost spent >1.5 Years worth of raw time for understanding how the computer works, and the Standardized tests seem to completely ignore it, instead favoring people who have more interest in General Sciences(Physics/Chemistry) to take part in their CS programs.

Unfair competition at it’s best :(.

^i understand you. We pretty much are in the same boat.

Opportunities to do what?

Research, interact with professors, learn to write effectively, get a chance to have your opinion voiced, sit in classrooms where actual discussion takes place, get out of your comfort zone, meet new people, understand a new culture… the list goes on and on

I really want to escape the rat race that everyone’s forced to participate, and do what I love to do(ie. Solving Problems).
