Here’s a hostess gift given to me by ds2’s ex – a framed picture of ds, his roomie and the girl, who just unfriended me on FB. 
I like the frame because it has their college name on it. I’m going to keep it out until ds graduates and replace the picture!
I have been the lucky recipient of a note that was specific in expressing appreciation, eg “You were so kind to get up early to make breakfast tacos before our hike. Suzy always talked about how yummy they are, and she’s right!” That guest has a standing invitation! I was also pleased to receive a text from another of D’s friends telling me how much the note of congratulations I sent when she was inducted inti Phi Beta Kappa meant. There are still thoughtful kids out there!
Talked to D in France this AM. She and her HS age charges are staying at homestays in a small town. Before leaving, she had asked the host family if they wanted anything from the USA. No, nothing. Turns out the 10 year old has a fixation about American food, and had such a long list that the French mom was embarrassed to ask for anything. Her requests? Lucky Charms, marshmallow fluff, beef jerky, Pop tarts, and not sure what else. I told her if we visit, will bring those items.
