Being short, I always tucked them in. I would try it out and it made me look like a square box. H, otoh, has shifted to about half time out. Half tuck looks good on me but, I find it hard to keep in place.
Mostly, I do wear things tucked in and still have a flat tummy. On me the French tuck feels like I couldn’t decide whether to tuck or not tuck so I prefer it all tucked or untucked (I’m not terribly fashionable).
I get irked with shirts that are too short and untuck but have never been a fan of bodysuits. Have some trouble with shirts that button as they sometimes gap across the chest.
I love the look of a half-tuck. I must confess I am not a sharp dresser unless it’s a special occasion.
I mostly work from home, don’t go out much, and I dress a lot like I’m about to go outside and mow the lawn. Haha!
Nevertheless, nice clothes and shoes do interest me, even if I rarely wear them.
I was fine tucking in my shirts until these tight jeans, jeggings came into vogue. They cut you no slack that the mom jeans, even boyfriend jeans do. And wearing the looser pants and jeans makes me look sloppy and frumpy (I was borderline there, when those pants are in style) .
I wear mumus; no tucking them! I love big floaty tops, they are so comfortable.
I stopped tucking about the time I took out the shoulder pads from my blazers.
And yesterday I saw a young woman walking across campus wearing an outfit that could have come from 1989…
Yes, comfort is the key. Now that I think about it, back in the day when I used to tuck in my shirts, there was some discomfort. It limited my movements. But I was willing to tolerate it when I was younger. Not anymore. ?
I never heard of a French tuck. Had to look it up. The first time I saw a half tuck was on the guy on what-not-to-wear.
French tuck only. (come on guys, watch Queer Eye and you’ll KNOW the French Tuck!)
I have never worn or liked the look of fully tucked shirts. I think if you’re busty it’s not a good look.
The French tuck was a natural for me. Never knew it was called that. Just sloppy dressing on my part. Now it’s “in”?!
and, I ask myself…‘why bother?’ tuck-it or don’t; a half tuck looks as if the wearer is in the throes of undress! JMO
Back before I had my son my waistline was my best feature (and long torso and legs-I’m tall) so I did tuck in my tops. Lost that waistline with extra weight gain and never tuck in tops- for decades. I dislike the affectation of only tucking in part of a shirt. Either it looks good all tucked in or all loose.
I do half tuck but I feel like I’m trying too hard to be young and cool. @conmama glad you posted this to know that I’m doing alright!
I find it amusing and ironic that my sloppiness has become stylish.
I’ve never tucked except when required by my school uniform as a kid lol. I am very tall and almost all of my height is in my legs. Until recently, I was very thin so it wasn’t a matter of tummy but a matter of my torso looking disproportional to my legs.
@deb922 , I find I like sweaters half tucked on me more than summer tops. Looks more polished.
Absolutely, 100%, not.
I tuck and am waiting for it to come back into style ? I hate to feel partially undressed and/or cold. Untucked shirts make me feel both. I have never had a flat tummy nor a waist, but do have small hips. For me, being short probably has more to do with it than those things.
I am not a fan of shirts. They get wrinkly, and the ones that don’t are too synthetic-y for my tastes. My tops are mostly fitted and meant to be worn over the waistband, not under it. I do like bodysuits, just not the self-inflicted wedgie-kind.
Never tucked. I am very short waisted and tucking in shirts looks as if everything I own pants included are pulled up too high or that something is wrong physically. My college Roomate was long waisted and I so envied that ability to tuck tops in. As you can guess I am totally bummed that high waisted pants and mom jeans are back in style because the low rise were definitely more flattering on me both in the seventies and the past 5 years or so.
