Do you tuck your tops in?

I always tucked in my shirts until I grew the menopause middle a few years ago. 4 kids didn’t help either. Now my shirts all hang, plus I like a higher waist pant.

Just a few weeks ago, a patient asked if I was pregnant. Guess my jacket was too tight.

After blowing it three times, I have vowed to never, ever ever ask any woman if she’s pregnant, unless she looks ready to pop and she’s doing heavy panting.

Digression. Body suits were never on my radar because they are always too short waisted for me. My mom always added 1" to the torso length (and not because I was so thin I wore smaller sizes than one would expect) when she made my clothes. Being tall it helps to have two piece garments so one doesn’t see a huge blob of one color, especially when one’s waistline has gone. The waistline on most dresses is too high for me.

Howcum when they increase the size they presume it is for short, fat people instead of normally proportioned taller people???

On topic again. Tucking in a top can be a problem when it is not long enough to stay tucked in. I get brands that run longer because I dislike showing skin when bending.

Aside- do they make any nightgowns or robes that are longer than midi length? Or have sleeves that go to the wrist? Tall sizes can be too long. Want warmth, not exposed skin in winter.

I go out of my way to avoid it.

I have a top-heavy figure. If I tuck in a top, I look like a pigeon.

Occasionally, I will tuck in the blouse when wearing a business suit, but I absolutely, positively never take off the jacket in that situation.

No. I never have. And I mean never. It was something I internalized from my mother’s comments about my body when I started growing up. She meant no harm, but she harmed me greatly. I have never for one day since around age 12 been happy with my body. Well, I mean up till then, I didn’t even think about my body. Oh, I don’t tuck in because I’m “short waisted” and “short waisted women don’t look good with blouses tucked in”.

I didn’t know there was such a thing as the half tuck until now. I had to Google it! I am no fashion plate in style or body, but I do tuck in most buttoned shirts and wear a cardigan or jacket on top. I don’t tuck in knit tops. I avoid oversized tops; nothing can make me look thin, but I don’t like anything that makes me look larger than I am. @VaBluebird My dad got me at about that age. I weighed either 105 or 115 lb - I forget which - and I asked him if that was OK. He was horrified that I weighed so much. Alas, that was the last time I was thin.

I went from 97 pounds and 4’11" at age 12 to 125 pounds and 5’5" at age 13! Fortunately, no one commented on the increases and they were proportionate. I mostly hid my figure in unflattering clothing most of intermediate/middle school. I find it upsetting that we women worry so much about these issues when most men just suit themselves.

But there is some of this concern among some men (note: gym members and gay men were overrepresented in the referenced study):

If I were to tuck at all, it would be under a jacket and a half tuck. But in general, I prefer longer, flowy shirts that are not tucked.

I’m thin and have always preferred longer flowy shirts paired with leggings or skinny jeans. I can’t stand the feeling of being restricted when I’ve tried to wear belts or tuck in my shirts.

I am very high waisted and busty and a tucked in shirt is an unattractive look with those attributes! On very rare occasions I’ll tuck in (or try a french tuck which seems to look great on others but looks odd on me to me) but only with a jacket with both flowing and hanging just so.
