Do you use hot rollers?

I haven’t used them since the 80’s, but I think they are making a comeback. I used them everyday in college and they pretty much fried my hair. But I’ve been considering buying a set, I guess they are much better now, for the occasion bounce and volume. Just a different style if I’m in the mood. Just wondering if any of you have them and what do you think. Don’t really want a throwback look

I haven’t used them since the 90s. But they didn’t fry my hair.

No…I don’t. I have a fabulous straightening brush, and a chi flat iron. Both can give me fullness and bounce.

The last set of hot curlers I had were steam…and they were good. They also had HUGE rollers…and many others didn’t have that.

I bought a set last year using my Ulta points reward. I’ve used them once but I don’t regret the purchase. I normally just wash and let my hair air dry.

I use a set of jumbo rollers by Conair. They don’t harm my hair at all. I try not to wash my hair more than every other day so sometimes use the hot rollers on the second day to add some bounce and take away kinks from sleeping on my hair funny. My set only has 5 rollers and I’ve been thinking about getting a larger set. It’s not as easy though to find large sets with all jumbos. Just last week I learned of these by t3. Definitely a lot more expensive but you can order extra rollers in different sizes. I have a hair dryer by t3 and I really like it.

I would be lost without my hot rollers. I have thick frizzy hair and a medium bob. The rollers calm and smooth my hair. I put quite a lot into each roller so not tight waves. I’ll either just curl the bottoms under or put a few vertically halfway up for beach waves. I have a hair dryer, chi flat iron, straightening brush, but the rollers are used the most.

I have a 20% off coupon from Ulta and thinking I might try some. I used to just roll them from ends to root. I just watched a video where the stylist starts by putting the roller in the middle of the strand and rolls the end around it first , then continues rolling it up. I wonder what that does ?

I use hot rollers frequently. Never really stopped using them. They make my hair look the same as if I’d used a curling iron, but I can get them all in in 2 minutes and go on doing makeup, getting dressed, etc. I can’t stand standing in front of the mirror for 15 minutes curling my hair with a curling iron. The longer I leave the rollers in, the tighter the curl. Usually, I just use big rollers which definitely smooth out my hair and I have not noticed any damage. I have flocked rollers and I’m sure they don’t get nearly as hot as my curling iron.

I use them on my daughters’ hair every once in a while but they now prefer using a curling wand and are getting very good at curling their hair that way (ages 14, 16, 18). You’re making me think I need to get my hot rollers out and see if they will work with my current cut/length. Sometimes at work other women will show up looking like Shirley Temple when they normally have a boring bob or some safe style. Maybe they were playing with their hot rollers too :)) ?

I have a set of hot rollers. I keep them, although I can only use them when my hair is really long, otherwise my head looks like a giant mushroom. Since I just cut my hair above my shoulders, they probably won’t get used for a long time.

I don’t and my wife doesn’t either.

Sadly, they don’t work for D not me. Our hair just won’t hold any curl unless we have a perm or body wave. The curl will go to straight within an hour after removing the curlers/rollers.

I use them sometimes. The ones covered in fabric won’t damage your hair )or if they do its much much less). I used to use a wide barrel curling iron and my hair gal advised me to switch to the fabric covered hot rollers. More time consuming but when I have time I’ll throw them in.

I suck at straightening my hair. @Thumper1 what brand of straightening brush do you use? That sounds way easier to use than my flat iron!

Ok, you guys got me to dig them out of the cupboard…my hair looked like an 80’s helmet head. What are you doing differently than when they first came out?

Anyone here got an Airwrap?! @-)

I don’t use curlers but I do flat iron my hair and sometimes use a curling iron on the ends. It adds a little non frizzy bounce and wave.

I knew for decades that the curling iron calmed frizz, why did it take so long to invent the flat iron?

I have several different kinds of hot rollers. My oldest set has white rollers with numbs and metal pins to hold them on. Next set - smooth with clamps.

Most often I use two vintage Conair “You link and Curl” hot sticks Tote-n-Go sets with two sizes of rods. They are heated bendable rods with a hole in one end. I can sleep in these if I get energetic and do it the night before. I divided the roods - small in one kit, large in the other kit. I love the orange bag and it is compact enough to travel. They work great with my hair and the curl lasts. No damage.

Looks like flat irons have been around for a long time. https://www.timetoast.com/timelines/evolution-of-the-hair-straightener

I’ve had one for at least 12 years–I have thick hair that tends to frizz and I’ve tried everything possible to straighten it. The flat iron is the easiest for me and I do the Keratin treatment for the summer.

I have an ancient set I break out a few times a year. I actually love the body it gives.
