I’m in that dilemma as well…heading to Windy City and wondering if I’ll stick out like sore thumb.
But there sure are cute outfits with boots, white jeans, sweaters and scarfs…
@gosmom …if you wear them tell me your thoughts when you get back. I’m on the fence afte4 reading all these posts to not wear them, but I haven’t climbed over all the way yet.

@Dustyfeathers , you are right about that! I was there last year in May and everyone was in black. So glad I had my leather jacket! I didn’t realize it was the same in the middle of winter.
@conmama – it’s a practical thing – people spend more time outside and walking. That means getting splashed and bumped by things. Sloshing through three inches of slush in the streets. That means: dirt.
You really don’t want to mess with a white coat or a white pair of pants or a white anything. Those things are great if you’re encased in a car, but not great if you’re out and about in the subways, buses splashing through puddles as you walk by, bumping against the sides of cars.

I meant I didn’t realize it was the same in the middle of summer. But it still makes sense. I live in a city that lives by driving everywhere, so not the same issues.

I love white jeans in the winter. They are common in my area (LA). I see lots of people wearing white jeans in outfits like these. I’m not sure if the links will work but they are all of Ines de la Fressange in white jeans in the winter. She’s known for that and she’s 60-something. All you need is a pair of Roger Vivier flats to cap off the outfit to emulate Ines!
I was going to say I have not seen my girls in white jeans, maybe white linen pants when we are on vacation. D2 is completely black most of the time. I have to admit that I have white pants, but I only wear them when I am at a resort.
I don’t think that many people look good in white pants.
@conmama may I ask what part of the country (or the world?) you will be traveling to? That may make a difference in how people feel about white jeans in fall.
There is something called – in the fashion industry – winter white. So obviously in the right way you can wear white in the fall & beyond. The other day I saw a woman in white cords. She wore them with a thick white sweater and ugg boots. She looked great. And still very autumnal.
I love white jeans with a black sweater in the fall and winter. I get so tired of only dark “fall colors” for so many months when the weather is cold. I live in the South where lots of people where white jeans year round.
On a somewhat related note, how about sleeveless dresses in the fall and winter on all the news shows? It doesn’t seem to matter where they are located. I think it’s ridiculous.
Those sleeveless dresses are fine, IMO. I feel sorry for the guys in suits.
I would not wear white jeans in NYC or in my city in winter. Too many possibilities to get them dirty. In LA, like shown - paired with a dark top? Why not.
I have just recently got some bargain white jeans from Costco but haven’t yet worn them. I think I would mainly wear them where I could quickly wash or at least spot treat them so I wouldn’t have to worry about any permanent spots. I am NOT kind to light colors, though I do like them. I tend to get stains and spots, but my sister LOVES her white slacks and says she can just bleach them as needed.
No… but I’ve never worn in summer either. I’m almost too messy for even my tan/khaki pants. It seems like they’d look ok year round in very warm climates.
I dislike white jeans, regardless of the season or fashions. Good grief- people still pay attention to the fashion police??? Thought that went out in the '60’s.
We definitely wear our whites year-round here in AZ. In the cool weather, we just call them our winter whites.
I can’t reconcile practical denim with impractical white is another reason for me. Plus not a good color for me (cream and navy not white and black, thank you).
I live in the South and rarely see white jeans. I think part of is that you just get tired of your summer stuff and put it away for awhile!
I would have guessed the answer to your question would be that you should wear whatever you want. I’m surprised to see so many people here calling white jeans (or anything) a fashion no. Really, I wouldn’t have predicted so many on this site feeling so constrained by fashion “rules.”
