I wear mine all year.
I say go for it! My neighbor looked so cute last night in white jeans and an orange sweater.
In San Diego, it was warm enough for shorts during the day, but definitely need a sweater at night. This thread has inspired me to wear white jeans to dinner tonight. I’m thinking with a black or gray sweater and booties.
delete post. I thought I was answering a text. Haha
Like the post about London above, no one in Ireland seemed to own any item of clothing lighter than brown when we were there last Jan/Feb. It was so obvious and odd to me that I asked at the front desk why everyone was dressed so dark and did no one wear colors or white (because the white skinny jeans I had brought were a staple of what I had packed). The desk person very seriously answered that no one would wear white. That would be considered very strange. She also told me that no one in Ireland wore sunglasses either–that’s an American thing. I ended up buying some dark pants, but the sunglasses stayed. I don’t go out without them.
Almost every day all year round, you will find me in some form of white bottoms (shorts, city shorts, capris, jeans, skorts, skirts) and a dark solid or print top. That and jeans just about sum up my entire wardrobe. White and jeans go with everything. Easy peasy.
I must be in @scorekeeper1 ’s region since our weather on Friday was 88 degrees. I was wearing white jeans, a navy top (and a pullover Navy cable sweater for the evening chill). I was meeting a colleague at Starbucks where I saw several people in white jeans.
I wasn’t going to wear white jeans but it was so warm during the day, and shorts would not have been an option sitting outside.
I guess it’s where you are at, geographically.
I spent last weekend out of town on the central Ca coast. I have been traveling to this region for over 30 years and I’ve never experienced such warm weather. We spent part of one day in a small beach town that is normally pretty chilly. There were tons of people in shorts, swimsuits and lo and behold white pants, shorts and capris. Loved the warm weather in late October but made me very aware of how our weather is changing.
I found a great pair of white jeans at the LL Bean outlet last weekend for only $3.52 !! I don’t have the guts to wear them here in New England during the winter, but I will bring them with me when we head out to visit D for New Years.
We are currently still traveling, and being on a cruise ship, shore visits are with lots-o-other people. And everywhere we’ve stopped (several points in Italy, France, Croatia, Montenegro) I’ve seen nothing but black, dark grey and navy. Looking out over a sea of people it looks like an outing of the clergy. Really, no color what’s so ever. We picked up a large number of Italian passengers at one of the transfer stops, they do wear some flashy stuff to dinner and for evenings on board. But still, most of the colors are muted. An occasional winter white or creamy sweater or scarf.
Glad I convinced H not to bring his standard Californian Hawaiian shirts…
I find it depressing to see everyone in black, gray, etc.
I understand the black bottoms, especially after someone here from NYC talked about it bring a more ambulatory lifestyle and too easy for pants to get smudges and dirty. But what surprises me is all the black tops. Of course this is just my opinion, but I think color just looks better on dark haired people. The contrast is more becoming. I have dark hair and the majority of my tops are some sort of color, even if it’s black and white. I’ll wear bkack tanks or camisoles with jackets or cardigans, but that’s about it. I think black tops look better and richer are blonds to medium brown hair.
The only time I think it’s striking on a very dark brown haired or black haired person is if their hair is up or pulled back and sleek. Not saying it looks bad otherwise, but just as impressive.
A few years ago I went to a charity lunch at a country club in NJ where several authors spoke. The first speaker who lived in Brooklyn, was all dressed in black (your typical NYC attire), she started by saying I guess I chose the wrong outfit today. The room was filled with color on all the women on a lovely spring day.
I wore white jeans yesterday; I topped them with a white background, multi-color indian tunic. Very nice!
Last year I went to Washington DC in May. The weather was beautiful and I loved people watching. Everyone was in pretty colors and the commuters were dressy. I then went to NYC and people were in drab and black. It was quite a difference.
I have a sister in law who wears black or very very muted colors. I like color and sometimes feel like an Easter egg around her.
I am also one who wears a lot of color and I don’t wear much black or brown- maybe slacks. I have a lot of furry pets and I wind up wearing them, so black is not a good option. I probably wear too much color for my professional position, but it’s what I like!
I am SO LOL’ing at the Easter egg comment @deb922 - but I get it!!!
I always think I am the only woman on the planet that doesn’t own a pair of black pants - besides leggings!
I too wear lots of color. Right now I’ve got a batik dress on with a purple sweater. I do like black tops with a colored skirt. Or a black cardigan with a colored print dress. Or black top with jeans or neutral shorts. But I’ll admit to being a little obsessive with having some color!
The front page of the LL Bean winter wear catalog I just got: a pretty family ready to frolic in the snow, the mom wearing a wool hat, wool scarf, Norwegian wool sweater, boots and what totally looks like white jeans
@katliamom That is funny. I was just on their site and they are indeed selling white jeans (with no off season discount) I guess white jeans and sweaters or white jeans and flannels are a becoming more of a thing
@readthetealeaves – I half suspect LL Bean’s current art director is from California
In answer to the OP’s question:
No, I don’t wear white jeans in the fall. Probably wouldn’t notice if someone else was, though.
