Does anyone else feel just plain... overworked?

Let’s use this thread to complain about all of the crap we do!!

I am soooo busy, and I’m only a sophmore! This year isn’t half as bad as next year is going to be. Right now things are starting to slow down, but my October through April I had no down time. For about 2 months I had some sort of rehearsal every day.

So here it goes, starting in August 2006.
August - swim team starts, then band camp. After band camp marching season starts which means I have to go straight from 2 swim practices to marching rehearsals twice a week. Every day I had 2 swim practices. In addition to that, I was preparing for 3 or 4 major auditions.

September - Swim season and Marching season still going on and school starts. Michigan Youth ensembles auditions, then continue preparing for All-State auditions.

October - Michigan youth band rehearsals every sunday, homework every night, and swim meets, at least 2 a week.

November - All-State auditions, Michigan youth band first concert, start practice partners (my job), swim season end.

December - got accepted to All-state (yay!), Livingston County Honors Band try outs (made 1st chair, woo!), holiday cheer!! (this was a kind of slow month)

January - (heres where the fun starts!) All-State (3 days) MYB starts up again (every sunday) LCHB (the Monday I got back from all-state) ((that was a CRAZY week)) and i think studying for exams started… can’t quite remember

February - not too bad, started Thoroughly Modern Millie rehearsals (which turn out to be hell in March)

March - (A.K.A the month I lost 15 pounds in 2 weeks) This is a hellish month. Millie rehearsals after school until 4:30 ish, then HELL WEEK. I literally did not have time to eat for almost a week, unless someone handed me the food and said “EAT!” Rehearsals after school until 9 PM. Then the showing week (muh birthday was during hell week… at least I got my license) HELL HELL HELL HELL!!!

April and May - everything starts to slow down. how nice.

I can’t even imagine how bad next eyar is gonna be, when I add in MYSO and Civic… and 2 AP classes… I’m scurred.

SOOOOOO how was everyone else’s year? Rant to your heart’s content, it’s nice to see other people who are as busy, or more busy than I am. Not that I’m sadistic or anything…

Yeah that’s life, but imagine if you end up getting rejected from your first choice…just kidding don’t think about that.

But seriously, if its too much then maybe drop some stuff. For me it got pretty intense when I couldn’t get more than 3-4hrs/night some weeks, but then others weeks i’d get like 9hrs/night.

Life is fickle.

Yeah, that sounds like my schedule… except take away the music stuff (that’s what I’m doing NEXT year, now that I’ve finally worked up the courage to audition!) and add in tutoring and radio shifts instead.
It sucks, but I deal with it by going out with friends on the weekend and letting myself feel proud. Sometimes I just need to stay home on Friday though, lie down on my couch, get some cookies, and watch the Lost, the Office, and 30 Rock episodes from the week. It helps =) Then I get back to my hellish life. Ha, ha…

Yeah. I’m so worried about next year. This year, I didn’t do any music things (I get SO nervous when playing in front of people, but I’m kind of getting over that…), but I am next year. I’m also taking 6 AP classes. I’m ALSO doing cross country and then distance in track (I hate the coach, but I’ve decided that I’m just going to suck it up and run next year, it being my last year and all). I also have clarinet lessons, tutoring, and radio shifts, too. Add in “normal” ECs (French Club, Town Council, NHS, Habitat for Humanity, etc, and I have leadership positions on almost all of them) and you’ve got yourself a REAALLLLYY bad situation. Oh, and then there are college applications… I nearly forgot that part. And the French exchange (they’re here right during the application process, and I’m going there right before AP tests. Awesome timing, language dept!)

I kind of like having a packed schedule, though. It makes me feel like I’m accomplishing something =P I probably won’t feel that way next year, though.

I haven’t read all the posts (will in a second, need to vent FIRST!) but I had BASICALLY no work October to well, the end of March. Since then, I’ve had project after project due every weekend, and we’re rushing to get through the whole curriculum (for example, in chemistry, we “did” acids and bases in a day, redox today, and organic chem is like two days next week…woo). And I have no time to study for SAT II’s or to breathe or to think. It feels like teachers want every minute of my life! I was planning on starting this humongous global project, but I wrote a 5 page paper for English. She gave it back to me, declared it as “too broad” and told me to narrow my topic/basically cut out 4/5 pages. This would be annoying period, but I spent, no joke, 12 hours, writing and editing this weekend. That basically means I spent 6-12 PM Sat (After volunteering…) and then 12-6 Sunday. I didn’t even go outside. Argh. I barely got my homework done, and I have to rewrite that whole freakin paper. And it’s due like, monday. WHAT THE HECK. So annoying. I really don’t get it, that I have all this crap NOW, and I have four weekends before finals. I’m not even looking forward to summer because I know I have so much CRAP to do before that.

And junior year will just be worse. With SATs, APs

Indeed. I don’t think I’m going to make it sophomore year. :p

Awwww… to all those who feel the pain of a tremndous workload. Rant on brothers (or sisters), rant on.

take a break? I mean, you don’t have to do everything, unless you absolutely love all of it. I’m overworked too, but I love what I do and working like that in general. Working is my kind of life.

Although my life isn’t really as crazy as you guys. I’ve got 3 APs, track every day for 2 hours, science team prep (going to nationals woohoo) and Mondays Thursdays Fridays I work from 6-10. I’ve also got GSA.

Have you ever thought that sacrificing your sanity for a few years just to get into a slightly better college than your peers isn’t worth it?

I’m a sophomore, and I always question why I am working so hard and if it’s even worth it to spend all of high school studying/doing ecs just to go to a better college…but yeah, I’m stressed right now, tennis season ended 3 weeks ago and i’m supposed to be practicing like 5/6 days a week right now, and I havent been able to play at all for the past 3 weeks cause of ap and finals…
I’m just trying to take it one day at a time right now…STRESSEDD

I get better grades when I am busy. That is why I work so damn hard. I love everything I do. Someone asked me today what I am doing this weekend and it took me a while since for the first time in many, many moons I have nothing to do this weekend. Absolutely. Nothing. It’s AMAZING!!

I am not working hard to get into a better college than my peers since pretty much everyone in my grade at my school are druggies and will end up in jail. (If you can’t already tell, I hate my class >.<) I am working hard to get in to a better college than my brother ^.^ Nah jk. I just really love hard work and I want to be proud of myself, and not to look back on highschool (like my dad does) and think, “Man I wish I could have done that.”

I’m glad though, that I have learned to say no to things. Iw as going to apply for student government, but then I thought it would be just completely hectic if I added more stuff.

I’m excited for all the work to come… summer is going to be so dull until Case CTD (Precalc w/ trig honors).

Anyone else doing anything over summer to keep them busy?
