I do.
My mom cut contact with her family…won’t go into it. I just contacted her sister. omg, idk if I should tell my mom at some point.
I needed to let this out, so I posted here!

Definitely! I wish I could explain it in a really easy description of my family and all of their flaws but there’s too much.
I mean, for one, literally my entire childhood my parents were just screaming at each other the whole time until 8th grade when they FINALLY got a divorce. Thank goodness.
My cousin killed herself and my aunt (the mother of the cousin who committed suicide) is always very cruel even to me and I can’t help but think she was a factor. And weirdly enough my other cousin (brother of the original cousin) told my sister that suicide was the best thing for his sister because she never would have been happy. I think that’s a very strange position to take on your sister’s death but…grief is grief (It’s been years).
My dad’s brother has a bunch of mannequins and says some creepy things. Right after my grandpa’s funeral, my dad and uncle got into a huge drunken fight and the cops were called. Fun.
…Those are the only things I can think of. I hate the misery dysfunctional families breed, but it’s good to know one’s not alone.
As you get older, you realize that every family is a soap opera.
@MissSuzyQ, my 20-year-old nephew died by suicide about a year and a half ago. I’ve learned not to judge how his immediate family has reacted. I can’t think of a worse thing in the whole world to happen to your child or sibling.
Alright I have a story for y’all. Today was thanksgiving. Early in the morning my parents were getting ready to go to my dad’s family for the first portion of the day. We were planning on going to my mom’s family for the second portion. So, my dad kinda got mad at my brothers and I this morning for not doing something he asked right when he asked us to do it. Understandedly, he raised his voice. We obeyed him. However my mom got pissed at him because he was “yelling” and she accused him of being violent due to morning drinking (which he hadn’t been… he doesn’t drink that often and definitely not in the morning).
So, my dad went to his family’s thanksgiving by himself, my mom went to her family’s with us kids. Honestly wish I could’ve just stayed home, my mom’s family argues more than my parents.
So yeah that’s my sucky thanksgiving and dramatic parents. Today I’m thankful that my parents didn’t hang out together, because I feel like things could have gotten very messy.
YES! There’s a reason we moved to FL… Apparently, some guy dated my mom, her sister, and her brother… went through the whole fam. #wow but we love him and he’s an honorary uncle. Then there’s random mob/church/DC connections where I’m like whAT HOW DO YOU KNOW THESE PEOPLE. And then there’s a dramatic flower designer, a random butcher who showed up one day, people who fight over money, and the cousin of a cousin on my mom’s side who may be the cousin of a cousin of a cousin on my dad’s side??? Idk. NJ is a small state?
update on my situation: I told my mom that I’m in touch with her sister and she’s ok with it. phew! My aunt told me that I have a second cousin at a college that I’m applying to! Isn’t that weird?!
My family moved into the same building as my dad’s sister when I was 16. They had a fight after that, which was completely my parents’ fault. My aunt turned 55 and got a rent rebate and my dad, 5 years younger, thought she should share it with him! I STILL don’t get that and I’m now past 55 myself. Anyway, they didn’t talk again for the rest of their lives and my parents lived in that building for another 17 years and lived 17 years more after that.
But I think I take the cake for dysfunctional families. I stayed in touch with my aunt, who I actually liked better than my parents. When we were dropping D off for college, my aunt called. She had fallen and was in the hospital. She wanted us to let her other brother know. When H called the other brother, he learned that my father had died the month before AND NOBODY TOLD ME! I then compounded it by deciding not to tell D my dad had died because we were literally dropping her off for freshman year and she hadn’t seen him since she was 6 anyway. It was at December break when I complained about my dad’s bills being sent to me that D finally learned he had died.
About a year later, H called my sister’s girlfriend because I don’t talk to my sister to check on my mom. Wouldn’t you know - she had died a year before and nobody told me.
When my aunt, who I took care of at the end of her life. passed away, ALL 4 of my sons called D separately to make sure she knew. I had already called her.
All families have their issues. I hope that I have learned from my childhood experiences. My kids are much closer than my sister and I ever were because H and I didn’t spend their childhoods setting them up in competition with each other the way my dad did. I hope my kids stay close.
Not bad, just unusual, but I have a relative who had 15 biological children and homeschooled them all. They’re in their 20s/30s and I met them a couple of years ago.
Drama Drama. There is no need for it. Act how you know you are supposed to and don’t let anyone change your mind. If someone is being ridiculous, make sure they know that and mock them until they get it straight.
