They said…“Do not worry that you have not been contacted for an
interview; interviews abroad are only conducted in cases where we need more
information, and not having an interview will not adversely affect a student’s
application.”

It’s not that surprising since you live in a small city in China. They probably just weren’t able to set up an interview with you. They definitely won’t hold that against you.

There are 4 kids applying to Harvard from our HS that I know of, and to my knowledge only one of them has been contacted for an interview. While all are good candidates to varying degrees, the one who was contacted happened to be the one with the least impressive stats. I have no idea why, and I have no idea whether it will matter for the other 3. I hope not, since it would be grossly unfair. But of course, that seems to be the story of college admissions…

Umm SATs (or ACTs) are a requirement. I’m sure you read it wrong. Harvard REQUIRES that applicants take the SAT or ACT AS WELL AS three SAT IIs. So i dunno where you read that Harvard didn’t require SATs and that students who didn’t take them wouldn’t be disadvantaged.

However your story is compelling :-D. When are you applying?

I’m Chinese, too. I’m from Shanghai and currently studying in Vancouver.
And OMG, you are a genius… i applaud you and if Harvard doesn’t accept you simply because you didn’t take SAT, I highly doubt Princeton is going to make the same mistake.
I applied to Harvard too and didn’t get an interview either, though I live in Vancouver.
What’s your name and where is your hometown? Type Chinese if needed… It’s nice to meet Chinese people here on CC

Snowylyn: Vancouverite applying to Harvard. No interview for me either. Maybe they didn’t have someone here…? Seems unlikely because Van is a major city :/

Snowlyn, he didn’t do research ON Mars (as in standing on it), he did research ABOUT it.

agldro, definitely don’t feel despicable! First of all, you don’t know whether you’ll get in- a lot of people I know here at Harvard didn’t expect to get in because they thought everyone else had better stats. And secondly, some people get in and some people don’t, but there’s nothing despicable about anyone.

I heard that there are small amount of people may be admitted without an interview because the adcom picked them just from their application…Interviews are offered for people who adcom are interested in but want more information. Perhaps I should really not worry :D
