Does anyone have a drinking or other substance addiction that is still active?

Foreally tho, does anyone have a substance addiction they have due from some personal issues going on or anything that is getting in their way of school?

…because I do, and was wondering if there was anyone else.

or what have you done to contain it.

what exactly is that substance addiction you are talking about?

alcohol or marijuana

Sounds like UCKittychen’s account got hacked or left on?!

hahah no, this is really me.

i guess its just one of the things going on with me i never have told you guys, but i was just wondering if anyone else is going through this, i need to overcome this, but bad is calling and it’s so hard to fight it in my position.

I think we all do. I drink quite heavily when there is not a test the following week or something important. I have a couple friends that the stress from college caused them to be practicing heroin addicts. Be careful.

I use to drink a hell of a lot more my freshman year. I realized that I can’t become a doctor while drinking 4 nights out of the week. For me it was the pressure under my shoulders and a job that I hated that made me drink so much. Figure out what’s causing it, contain it. I would suggest seeing a therapist. It help you realize what you could do better and how to get there. Thats what I did.

I also went to rehab in high school, which if it had not happened I would still be using. Try not to let it get that out of control.

Don’t fall into the “its genetic” trap because it’s really not genetic, or predetermined for the rest of your life or at birth.

that was some excellent advice science.

i appreciate it. i find myself consuming even when tests are the next day, i don’t know why. i use to not be this way…

Sounds like performance anxiety to me! Go to a therapist tell them what you are experiencing. I use my mom as a confidence boost when I am feeling really bad about a test I’ve studied 30 hours for(ROFL). It keeps me from wanting to stress drink lol.

haha how much is a therapist per hour usually?

more than a 30 pack, or bottle of ciroc, or an 8th of marijuana? ha.

clubbing, and hanging out too much in my freshman year, but that is the past. Now im a new person, who knows what he or she is doing.

broke my dream going to UCB. ;(

Your college will have some for free I am almost positive. You won’t have to sell to go to one :stuck_out_tongue: you can find one also that is covered by health insurance, where are you currently attending?

Me too Ferrari  but I’m going to Rutgers as an OOS next semester.

Yeah I’m considering going completely clean and sober. I wasn’t drinking that much and hadn’t done anything else for years until I came to Berkeley and it’s not worth it. It’s killing my motivation in school and I’m getting really depressed lately. I went to the psych counselor for the first time the other day and it was really helpful (and free w/UC insurance).

san joaquin delta college.

[San Joaquin Delta College - Home](http://www.deltacollege.edu)

same city University of the Pacific is in, if you are familiar with UOP (private college, tigers, etc)

i suggest u to dispose of any alcohol and mj. don’t think like they are valuables going to waste, cuz, in end, they will cost u more than they actually value and u will deeply regret it. and keep urself busy at all times so that u won’t be reaching for anything that will overcome boredom just for that moment.

Seeing as you are postin in UC transfer are you planning on transferring because your school makes you want to drink?

no, but transferring is a reason for drinking to me. i live in stockton, california. google its notoriety.

I know where that’s at I’m a Cali resident too haha, don’t worry about it Davis will always take you :)!

i hope so!

where is your prospect school? oh wait OOS, i never seen you around here, are you interested in UC at all?

Umm alcoholism is genetic. Does that mean everyone who is born with the gene becomes an alcoholic? No. But the same goes with schizophrenia and countless other disorders. Those born with the gene are at a higher risk of becoming an alcoholic. Anyways /rant.

@Kitty if you really want help or guidance why don’t you check out some local AA meetings? They might even have one on your campus. You should be able to get some free psychological counseling at your CC as well. It should be included in the health fee you pay. I hope you get the help you’re looking for!

"Umm alcoholism is genetic. Does that mean everyone who is born with the gene becomes an alcoholic? No. But the same goes with schizophrenia and countless other disorders. " Yes by all means argue against Professor Robert Sapolsky, Professor of Neurology at Stanford University, who has degrees from Harvard and Rockefeller University… I’m not going to argue with you, just look up his segment on Zeitgeist maybe it will change your mind. In way you are partially right. This isn’t the place to argue it lol.

While AA is good, I really wouldn’t suggest it unless you are using heavily and its destroying your life and you need to go to rehab. I’ve been there done it, its a just another thing to get addicted to.
See the counseling office at your college. Yay for health fees!!
