Does Anyone Watch "What Not to Wear"?

Is anyone interested in talking about “Say Yes to the Dress”? DH keeps asking me why I want to see women try on wedding dresses, and I keep telling him it’s all about the relationships among the people helping the bride. It’s a psycho-drama. Love that show.

We love Say Yes as well!

“Say Yes to the Dress” is one of the few shows I record on my DVR. Blown away by the price of wedding gowns and what people are willing to pay. I am also, amazed at the mean and snarky comments made by family and friends of the bride.

Has anyone seen the Say Yes to the Dress episode with the ladies from Atlanta? The bride doesn’t want to wear the wedding gown that her great-grandmother bought and that six people in her family have worn. Her mother and (I think) her aunt are a stitch – they are sooooo proper and southern!! Mom gets upset when Randy mentions that the bride wants to look “sexy” on her wedding day. Mom says that was “inappropriate.”

You’re going to leave me hanging, abasket? What was the WNTW episode about? Do they repeat episodes on another date? (I know that they repeat them at 11pm on the same night.)

Yes, I saw that episode……….thought Randy handled the situation very well. Did you see the one where the sorority girls came just to play dress up and were rude to the consultant?

Maybe we should start another thread for “Say Yes to the Dress” show and not take over this “What not to Wear” thread.

The worst episode was one where the cousin (I think) and the Mom of the bride were really mean about her weight and even laughed at her in some of the dresses. The consultant was horrified but tried to be polite. I’d have been fired because I would have totally told them off.
I haven’t seen what not to wear for a while - I will have to check the schedule if it is back.

The WNTW episode this past Friday was about a 29 year old woman (I think, 29) who had recently lost something like 170 pounds. She was still not exactly slim and trim, but of course, in much better shape physically than a long time (I believe she said she succumbed to comfort food especially when her dad died). She was busty, and had a couple of outfits that OMG , one wrong move and the girls would absolutely pop out!!!

Everytime I watch Stacey and Clinton I am convinced they work perfectly together - they CRACK me up!

The two go hand-in-hand in a way. For example, many would say that one should never wear a wedding dress. :D

In case anyone missed it, a new thread for Say Yes was started and is going strong! Guess I know what many of us spend OUR Friday night’s doing!!!

I finally watched the new episode. A great transformation.

I don’t love the new hair guy. It seems like all of his ‘dos are very retro. The one in the new episode worked better than all the long 70s’ layered ones last cycle.

My H makes fun of my TLC viewing habits. I love WNTW and Say Yes on Friday nights! As a teacher, by the end of the week I am exhausted. My H does an early morning radio show on Saturday, so he goes to bed very early. We usually never go out on Friday nights anymore, so it works out nicely. He goes to bed, and I get to watch “my shows”. Funny thing is - I like several other TLC shows as well (Little People, Big World; Table for 12; Cake Boss) and used to be a Jon & Kate viewer. Don’t care for The Duggar’s show, or any of the Chopper guys though! I was out this past Friday, so didn’t get to see the new episode of WNTW, but hope to catch it On Demand this week. My D wants me to nominate her for a makeover - LOL!

Apologize in advance for the off topic question:
Like allie’smom, I’m not a fan of The Duggars, but I have watched out of curiosity on several occasions. I know their latest child was born very prematurely and wondered if anyone knows how that baby is doing?

I watch it for advice. I cant wait for project runway to start too.

Am I the only one who would’ve cried if my hair had been cut, colored and styled like the victim (er, subject) of last night’s new episode?

Missed that! What happened?

Was that the “Mom Jeans” episode?
I thought that woman was a very good sport about it. I find the haircuts and colorings to be the weakest link on that show. Too far from natural, and often when the subject is a younger woman, they’ll make her look overly styled or matronly. I also think it’s rude to take a person too far away from their natural color, because it will be a pain in the neck to keep up with down the road.

I agree; I did. not. like. that. hairstyle. What was the business about brushing it forward over her forehead? I thought it would have looked more normal to be brushed to the side.

I was underwhelmed by last night’s episode. I also thought the woman was much, much, much too agreeable.

I absolutely love the show. A pet peeve, when Clinton, whom I otherwise adore, says that a woman looks “sassy.” It somehow doesn’t sound so complimentary–strikes me as a little condescending.

I called up Carmindy’s studio to see how much a make-up lesson would be. I was shocked when I heard it was a thousand dollars.

I know someone who had her hair cut by Nick (after he was already off the show). I don’t know if his firing had anything to do with it, but he claimed that Stacey and Clinton don’t like each other in real life.

I have trouble with this show. I do not like the woman host. I think she is full of herself and mean-spirited to the make-over women. She just seems catty in her comments to the women, critical, demeaning. And I think she needs a hair makeover herself. Also, on the opening montage or whatever it’s called, there is a mock traffic sign: No minis over age 35. I watched a little of the show last night, and woman host was clearing wearing a mini-length dress, and I’m guessing she must be over 35.

I like the guy host a lot. He seems to have a much kinder heart to me.

My 24-year-old D likes the show and said she has learned a lot from it.
